My creepy next door neighbor works here. Maybe that wasn't the perfect lead in. My creepy next door neighbor that is moving out in a few weeks works here. Shoot. That wasn't much better. This café is next door to basically where I live. They have so many tantalizing sounding things on their menu, however, I rarely find myself eating here because its expensive as hell for the area or for any area. No, I take that back. It's cheap. But for 'what it is' (diner/ not good cafe food) it is expensive as hell. We don't have enough sit in and eat restaurants or cafes along Church Avenue in these parts is a part of the problem.
I wandered in here the other day hung-over for just a bagel and flavored cream cheese and it came to just barely under $3. The bagel sucked and I wanted my money back. Also, for most of their sandwiches if you want anything on the side it costs extra. I've maybe had a sandwich twice here in the year I've lived here and they were both pretty bland. Maybe I didn't pick well. But from what I recall, I wanted something with a wrap that had chicken and avocado in it and they did not give me any avocado and I was very sad. Their various sports drinks, smoothies, juices, natural things all sound interesting though and their desert shelf is impressive. They have huge cakes, brownies, pastries in the window that I have yet to experience but they look fantastic. I'm just still not over the prices. Maybe if a plain grilled cheese with American cheese wasn't $3.49 I would come here. But who am I kidding? I don't eat when I get home from work anyway.
Shady place. Overexpensive for what you get. They receive a huge volume of delivery orders and I think they make their money off of that volume. I've gone in there and once waited 40 minutes for pancakes and eggs while delivery person after delivery person went out the door. Most recently, I ordered something so simple there's no way the woman working behind the counter could have gotten in wrong. I asked for a small salad ($7.50) with one meat that costs extra ($1.50). The woman wrote down ($7.50 + $3.00). I had to ask for the receipt but I didn't look at it until later when I realized they charged extra. Meanwhile this now 10.50 + tax salad was barely half a meal. Way overpriced and too many mistakes.
My boyfriend orders from here a lot because it's near his place and they have a wide selection, but from now on I'm going to try to persuade him to do something else, because every experience I've had with them has been less than good.
They get two stars instead of one for their extensive menu and because in the rare event that our food is still warm when it gets here, it is pretty good. I just don't understand why it always takes over an hour and a half to get our food, plus having to re-heat it when it does arrive.
Maybe they're better in person? I don't know, but don't really care to find out.
Best cafe nearby hands down. In Kensington there aren't alot of good delis and cafes. This is one of the besf- in my opinion better than most in the city. Their food is always made on the spot, their paninis are made to order, not sloppily made and barely toasted. Their tex mex is great, love the Soho Burrito. The best paninis are the Park Place, Nuevo Mexico, BLT, Italiano. However with their gyros the chicken was kinda weird. Not actual chicken but more like chicken patties. Other than that everything else is great. I always come here, and I plan on trying everything on the menu. The tres leches cake is delicious as well!
