My friends and I came here when the weather was bad on a random Tuesday and it was empty!! A miracle!! We had been dying to try this place and knew it had grown in popularity so we were very prepared to wait, but we didn't have to!! Amazing. There is a small menu of sandwiches. They take your typical ingredients, put them all together and make innovative and tasty sandwiches. One friend got the reuben and LOVED IT. My husband got the Italian Combo and every last crumb. I got the grilled cheese and it was phenomenal. Three different kinds of cheese on a tomato focaccia. Incredible. The shop is small and is decorated in the European style of having little spreads and cheeses and yogurts you can buy as well. There is a vegan option and 2 vegetarian options. The prices are more than your average sandwich but these sandwiches are beyond average. So freaking good! Can't wait to go back!!
If it's Saturday morning, you will find me at Court Street Grocers in my sweat pants and sneakers ready to order yet another delicious breakfast sandwich with bacon (I think it's called the L&J). Every sandwich here is excellent, and maybe the best in Brooklyn. The ciabatta bread on the breakfast sandwich is worth the $7.50 price alone.
These sandwiches are definitely the best in Carroll Gardens / Red Hook, and Court Street wins my award for best breakfast sandwich of the year. The coffee is dark, rich and bold. The food items in the pantry are so fun and inviting that I always buy something that I didn't expect to buy on my visit. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an old country store.
God, I'm grateful this place is a block from my house. My breakfast budget is so busted.
Hint: the line and wait can be long on weekends. Call ahead to order your sandwich to go.
I really liked the three sandwiches we got here, but wasn't quite as blown away as a lot of other people seem to have been. We got the Catskill roast pork, the Itlaian combo, and the Macho Man. All three were very good, but there was some separation between the Macho Man and the others, for me. The Italian combo was my second favorite, followed by the Catskill roast pork.
The price was right, the place was cool, and the food was very good. Definitely a very solid spot.
This place just might have the best sandwiches in Brooklyn. Bold statement, I know, but try some for yourself and you'll know what I'm talking about.
Their bakery and packaged items ate great too. And they play James Brown.
Is it worth trekking down Court Street to the point where you're practically standing under the BQE to enjoy a d-o-p-e breakfast sandwich? Yes. Yes, it is.
I've been to some of the outposts for Court Street Grocers a few times, but it's just not the same until you visit the original store. I'd highly recommend the breakfast sandwich. Mainly because it's delicious…but also because the staff here is so friendly, they'll get your day started on the right foot.
I only wish they were open past 6! Or earlier than 9! Like, even 7 or 8 would be awesome. Because you know people want a kickass sandwich after or before work, amiright?
I came here for a quick dinner on Sunday night. The space is cute, with a little market on the right side and a small dining area on the left. The decor is minimal. The guys working there are super friendly and seemed genuinely happy to see us. I was especially appreciative of this since we walked in at 5:30 and they close at 6! I hate doing that to businesses.
My boyfriend got the Reuben and I got the Italian. They were ready really fast and the chef helped me bring them to the table since I was holding a soda in one hand. The Reuben was okay, but it looked a bit small. I really liked mine! The only thing was that I didn't realize it came with an olive spread, and I hate olives. Once I scraped that off, the rest was good.
I'd love to go back and try the breakfast sandwiches and the macho man. My boyfriend commented that it wasn't worth going down to Carroll Gardens for these sandwiches, but I think we may have just gotten the wrong things.
If I could eat one of these sandwiches every day without just exploding I probably would. Especially the breakfast sandwiches. And, hey, I am on a perpetual quest for the best breakfast sandwiches and this one is currently in the lead. Especially when adding the sausage. Yes.
Court Street has some of the tastiest sandwiches in the city all in what looks like a corner grocery store. In front, there are shelves of snacks and drinks from around the world including interesting products not normally sold in the US. Behind the counter though is a second counter for sandwiches. There aren't a huge number of choices, but the ones there are delicious. The macho man comes on a toasted garlic bread with deliciously marinated pork shoulder and pickled jalapeno. The bread is crispy and perfect, holding up to the sloppy ingredients well. The meat is also delicious and flavorful. The space itself isn't incredibly atmospheric, but it works for shoving down the delicious sandwiches.
