The Original Soupman

“Love the lobster bisque because it had chunks of lobster my wife had the shrimp corn chowder she loved it.”

“It came with a slice of soft and chewy french bread, a banana, and a Lindt chocolate.”

“The link to Seinfeld is probably a draw, but again, it should not be a distraction, as you can expect good soup too!”

  1. I love Seinfeld and didn't expect this soup to actually be good, but omg it was amazing! I've never had a mulligatawny like this; lentil-based and hearty with curry chicken, spinach, carrots, raisins, apples – so unique and delicious. It's such an easy experience, short line, you just step up to the window and get some soup and they have small, medium and large sizes. They have some interesting-looking soups! And "No Soup for You" t-shirts and soup mugs. Check it out!

  2. First off, they are a really nice staff. Lol, sorry.
I had the lobster bisque soup with a lobster roll. It was pretty pricey, $24 total.
The soup & roll are pretty good. They included bread, banana & a lindor….nice touch.
Only con, there is not an area to sit. Just get your soup and go. Lol

  3. "The Original Soupman" was my first meal in NYC. It was perfectly fitting, perfectly delicious, and exceeded my expectations.

I ordered the Lobster Bisque. Like Elaine Benes, one taste and I needed to sit since my knees buckled at the amazingness in my mouth! Note that this is totally carry-out, so if you're not heading home or to a hotel, you'll have to find a curb, step, or bus stop bench to sit at.

The soup was perfectly seasoned and included diced potato, celery, onion, (and garlic?) and BIG chunks of lobster. Seriously: BIG! I was impressed!

It came with a slice of soft and chewy french bread, a banana, and a Lindt chocolate. The nice gentleman also gave me a free bottle of water!

I'm a bit remorseful I didn't make a return trip for Mulligatawny – but so many NY eats, so little time! Definitely, though, on my next trip to The Big Apple!

  4. The soup here is quite good! And they have a decent selection. What surprised me was that this was literally just a small open storefront with a small kitchen in the back. There are no seats inside (because there is no inside) or outside on the sidewalk. However, the storefront does have references to the Seinfeld "Soup Nazi" episode. Pretty funny.

The service is excellent and the menu self-explanatory. I decided to try the lobster roll ($12) and the large lobster bisque ($12). The small was way too small and $10. I wouldn't say that the portions were that large, especially given the price. Definitely the most expensive soup I've had, but worth a try. It had large chunks of lobster in it. The lobster roll itself had multiple claws. The pairing with the buttered bread that formed the sandwich was awesome. It's similar to Luke's Lobsters sandwich.

  5. Seinfeld kitschiness aside, it's quite the decent soup, especially the lobster bisque. It all comes with a roll of bread, a Lindt chocolate, and an apple. You won't find any surly Soup Nazis here – just quick, efficient service. Speaks volumes when the trash bins at an office building park nearby are filled with used soup containers from here.

  6. Mmmmm jambalaya!!!! It was actually very very good! The fiancee got veg chili and really liked it too. We kept talking any how great of a deal it was. Soup, bread, and apple for like 5 and 7 dollars. The guy was really nice though….I thought he was supposed to be like the guy on Seinfeld!

  7. I simply cannot think of a better deal in town, where for 5 bucks, you literally got the list of stuff below – tasty soup, multi-grain bread, orange, and a small piece of Lindt chocolate! Best combo ever! The only issue with me was that this place was a bit farther away so I would have to take a lengthy walk. However there was no line whatsoever, and service was really fast and efficient.

Looking forward to coming back and trying their signature lobster bisque and clam chowder! And probably I should consider getting a larger size as it was simply so delicious!!

  8. Finally checked out this spot on a thunderstorm late afternoon.

The store was empty, no customers waiting. So I ordered a lobster roll, which was $12. Quite fancy.

The lobster was juicy and fresh, with lettuce and sauce. I like its favor.

I had lobster rolls in the Plaza hotel($78 the Fitzgerald Set) and Luke's lobster($18). They are ok for me. But I always want to to find a spot which provide cheaper price and ok food.

    Happily I found it anyway.
