BKLYN Larder

“You never feel quite comfortable unless you think nothing of spending a hundred bucks on cheese and gelato.”

“What sets this spot apart is that they serve some of the food on the menu at Franny's as well as make more great stuff from the kitchen in back.”

  1. Looking for a classic Italian hero in prospect park is harder than one might imagine. Any Italian worth his weight in bread and cheese will tell you a hero is a combination of bread (the foundation), fresh meat and provolone, and a healthy splash or oil and vinegar.

This is not an Italian deli.
This is an example of what brooklyn is becoming. No matter what your opinion – Good or bad it's the future.

  2. If I could eat here every day, I definitely would. Although my bank account would be seriously affected.

Every time my boyfriend and I are in the neighborhood, we stop by for lunch. They have great sandwiches – my personal favorite is the ham and gruyere. The staff is extremely friendly and always helps us select menu items. I've also tried their homemade gelato (very good) and their prosciutto sandwich (amazing, as expected). They have a great beer selection – I found my favorite Chicago beer (!!) and subsequently stocked up. Their veggies, salads, etc. are tasty and healthy.

The only thing about BKLYN Larder I have yet to explore is the cheese selection. "But it's a cheese shop!" you might say. I know, I know, but they have a lot to offer and I'm usually already spending way too much money by the time I get around to the cheeses.

Overall, a little pricey (small-ish sandwiches for $12) but so, so worth it.

  3. Brooklyn Larder does a lot of different things. They have their own gelato. They do ice cream. They prepare sandwiches. They have local artisinal stuff. And they have meat and cheese.

But somehow, I just wanted… more. Their cheese selection is great, but their staff is terrible at multi-tasking. I don't know why you can't also help us just because there's an indecisive person trying out all the cheese options.

Their cured meats selection is also pretty weak. They have a few interesting things, but it's not as comprehensive as you would get at say Bedford Cheese Shop or Murray's.

Maybe I'll be back to try their sandwiches. They looked pretty good.

  4. A friend brought me the turkey sandwich and it was very good. Really enjoyed the pickled onions. The bread was a little hard but overall it was a great sandwich.

  5. Awesome staff and great chill vibe. I tried the salumi & provolone sandwich (recommended by one of the staff) which was pretty good. Make sure you get it grilled. They have a variety of pastries and my personal favorite was the grapefruit chess pie – not too sweet and looks/tastes like egg tart. Also tried the pistachio gelato which I honestly thought was one of the best one's I've tried. Will definitely come back to try other things on their menu!

  6. This place is were foodies come to drool!! There is all those special ingredients you are looking for. From canned sardines to fancy beers and even some international candies. And how can you not be mesmerized by the cheese collection. I am especially drawn to the baked goods at this spot. I felt like good treats were lacking in Park Slope. And now it not only has delicious baked goods but they are those perfectly balanced desserts like Almond Cake, Orange Sesame Cake and Olive Oil Cake. I like stopping by here when I myself don't have time to bake but I need a fix of something delicious.

Highly recommended but I will warn you that you will want to buy everything!

  7. There are so many good reasons to love this place. Their products are always fresh and their shelves are always well stocked. You can get so many awesome food stuffs here ranging from prepared foods, homemade ice creams, fresh dairy, desserts, meats and packaged products like honey, nut butters, oils, teas and so much more.
The staff are always really friendly. Whenever I stop by to grab something, I always linger at the counter to stare at all the goodies. The counter is packed tight with caramels, chocolates, cookies and chips. The staff is always ready to check you out but also willing to hang out for a minute while you look around, so it never feels like you're being rushed.
The only downside to this place is the price. I spend a little over $4.00 on 64oz of milk at the park slope food coop and it's $3.50 here for 32oz. Then again, they probably pay a ridiculous amount of money on rent so for the area, the price is fairly typical. Either way, I'll be back.

  8. Went here to procure meat and cheese. The woman at the counter was very helpful, she gave us numerous meat and cheese samples and some good recommendations. The gelato looked delicious too. Almost everything was out of my budget. The next time my mother (who isn't concerned with budgets) visits me, I will get her to take me here and buy me gelato, cheeses, bacon, candies, and vinegars.
