Wasabi Sushi & Bento

“But what do you expect with a new restaurant in the food desert that is just south of Times Square?”

“The chicken onigiri for 2.75 was a great value and super tasty the tempora prawn I'd skip next time.”

“For go-to sushi and that you can choose individual pieces is quite an interesting concept.”

  1. Right next to Times Square, they have wide varieties of boxed sushi/sashimi/salads. Great place to grab a quick lunch. Quick service, they have 5/6 lines to check out in rush lunch hours.

They also have seating area but they get filled super quickly shortly after noon. This place is big, bright, it think it'd be a pleasant experience to dine there.

  2. It was fine, nothing overly special.  It is clean, quick and self serve fresh sushi and Japanese food.  They have some items too.  Sushi wrapped by piece so you can make your own box or you can get a box with rolls or assorted pre-packaged.  Enjoy!

  3. This place is a solid 3 star option in the Times Square area. I work very nearby, but don't come here often because of the average food quality and high prices. The selection ranges from sushi trays to bento boxes including savory options like Chicken Katsu. The selection is quite good for a lunch spot. However, the location makes for a very crowded and in my opinion unpleasant dining experience. The restaurant is typically very crowded during the lunch area with limited seating. Additionally, lunch is well over $10 for a filling meal. The food never seems particularly fresh, and I'd rather save myself for delicious sushi, which can be found at many restaurants in the city. If you are nearby with a craving for Japanese, it's not a bad option, but overall would not recommend going out of your way.

  4. I really wanted to like this place. It looks very appealing from the outside and is real close to my work but the food quality just isn't there. I got the salmon rice bowl and while the rice and seaweed tasted somewhat average the salmon was tuff and just did not taste right. To be honest, it didn't look great either.

  5. I come here a lot because I work in the area, and this place is fantastic.

There is a ton of freshly-prepared sushi of all varieties, at reasonable prices. There's also nigiri by the piece, individually wrapped in plastic. Sort of annoying to open each one by one, but still makes sense. I typically get one or two of the boxes with salmon and tuna, or one of the sushi burritos. The burritos are definitely a better bang for the buck, but I usually get at least two portions. Totally my fault that lunch usually comes to $25-30.

The place gets packed around typical lunch hours, and though there are seven cashiers, I often find myself waiting much longer than I'd like. Some of the cashiers are 3x faster than others, so it's really just luck of the draw. Will be back time and time again.

  6. Wasabi Sushi 7 Bento has not lived up to its London parent location.  While the sushi and other prepared meals are a bargain, the soups especially the ramen and udon noodle soups are some of the worst you can find.  It is a shame because I live for hot noodle soups.  I waited a year to give this place another chance.  It was worse than I could have even imagined.  Somehow I still have hope that their former quality soups will return!

  7. This is not my first visit to Wasabi, but my first one in US. Have been to Wasabi London for many times, I tended to compare the two. While the one in London (near Moorgate) was much smaller, it was also on the cleaner side.

Indeed, Wasabi was a good option if you are tired after a long day of work and just prefer something simple and stuffy, and they do have lots of choices, ranging from healthy side pokebowls, to assorted sushi boxes, to bento boxes and ramen/udon, which were prepared fresh. Not have a big appetite, I grabbed a small bowl of cold salad noodle. For small, I really meant it – two bites plus a small shrimp and that was it. Really cannot complain too much given the price tag (3 dollars something)…

Regular rice bowls and ramen cost around 10 dollars, which could be a good deal if flavor can be justified. Without trying them yet, I will leave this place three star.

  8. 1st time coming in wasabi because of #homesickness 😉
Wasabi is a popular fast food lunch spot in the UK, happy to see them here in NYC.
Food is very similar but I find the portion is a lot bigger here ( what's new).
The usual suspect, sushi, hot bento with drinks.
Also, they do green tea soft icecream- which I really wanna try during proper NYC summer.
I would have given this place 10 stars if I can… LOL
