  1. From Queens, this was a mission especially in the rain. I was expecting a market with a restaurant, similar to Eataly, given the name. But it was just a restaurant.

The place was cute and funky. The menu was pricey and food selections were fancy. Cousin got the lobster cocktail which was so pretty to look at. The waitress mentioned their special of the day which was a bbq brisket sandwich with 2 eggs. I ordered it and received a open faced half sandwich and eggs on the side. While it was still delicious, the expectation was completely different.

The service was friendly and prompt. The food was good, small portions, and pricey. Great place to go to if you're in the area, but not sure if it's worth the trouble if you're coming from a distance.

  2. Delicious raw bar and drinks. Get's extremely crowded on weekends (but this is NYC so if your not prepared for this, you may not be cut out for it). We came here for the first time with my husband in the winter time and were treated spectacularly by the man behind the raw bar. We had never tried some of the sea critters and he gave us a little complementary taste. Extremely cozy atmosphere (which if you have read my reviews then you know this is a huge factor for me).
Our second experience was unfortunately not as pleasant. Came here with my husband and brother-in-law. We just wanted drinks and because of that were brushed off and not treated with the same courteously as other dining patrons. On the other hand they were extremely busy and I understand how that can be. Overall it was not bad enough to not return to this location. I will be coming back again and bringing friends and family.

  3. I have been wanting to go to Jeffrey's Grocery for two reasons: the bloody caesar and the platter for two, which is exactly what we got.

For drinks, I got the Bloody Caesar ($16) which is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it. It comes in a mason jar so it is quite large with an oyster, a jumbo shrimp wrapped in scallion, pickled pearl onion and a cornichon. It is really filling and probably my new favorite drink. In addition,
I wish I asked what kind of oyster it was because it was so good but I forgot.  I also tried two different versions of the Bloody Marys; the first made with dill vodka and the second with cilantro vodka (each$12). I personally thought the dill vodka was a lot stronger tasting while the cilantro wasn't a very pronounced taste though both were good. Also, they definitely don't skimp out on the alcohol in these!

For food we got the platter for two ($60). Honestly don't get anything else. It's so good and is definitely enough for 3 people, make 4 if you aren't crazy hungry. It comes with two types of lox and smoked white fish, two very large latkas, scrambled eggs with caviar, creme fraiche, tomatoes with onions and capers and dill, white fish salad, a bread basket with challah, pumpernickel breads, bagels and two types of cream cheese (plan and scallion). It was too much food for 2 people but so, so good.

I know there's usually a wait but we found two seats at the bar and to only took like 3min. I would highly recommend this for brunch.

  4. First of all, who choses the dope ass playlist? Walked into Whitney. Then Stevie. Then Beegees….great vibe. Sat at bar all evening. Had a $60 bottle of delicious sparkling rose.  The raw oysters and shrimp cocktail were on point. The grilled oysters are a must. Slam dunk. And of course there were paparazzi outside shooting pics but I couldn't figure out who the famous person was inside. Finally, Oswaldo the bartender was super sweet and helpful. Great time.

  5. My only regret is that we didn't come hungrier.

Even though I grew up outside of NYC I still feel like a tourist when I visit so I was so happy to stumble upon this neighborhood spot. With full bellies from Italian paninis we were still craving oysters while exploring on a Monday afternoon.  We stopped in and enjoyed some local beers and a dozen oysters that we selected randomly. They were so fresh and delicious that we had to order another dozen. One oyster was so unique with a sweet finish unlike any I've had before… wish I remembered the name.

We were happy with this delicious expensive snack – totally worth it.  Hopefully I'll be back someday to try some of the platters, they look amazing.

  6. I've never eaten a whole meal here, so can't speak to brunch or dinner (though I'm sure they'd be excellent) but in my experience, Jeffrey's Grocery is the perfect place to stop into for a glass of wine and maybe a snack of oysters. I caught up here with a friend on a Sunday (it was actually super loud, so we left after one drink – beware) and then my parents and I came for a pre-theater pick-me-up on a weekday. The oysters were great and the wine list is very complimentary – lots of mineral-y whites and roses.  Note that they have very little in the way of reds, since, as the waitress explained, they serve mostly seafood. Also, awesome ambience – I basically want to decorate my kitchen/living room like Jeffrey's.  And the bathroom gets 5 stars.

  7. While their oysters and cheese plates are usually the way to go, they do have a pretty tight wine selection. Split a bottle or two amongst friends on a cold, rainy day. Sure does the trick

  8. I loved everything about this place. Such a cute restaurant with a rustic boat kind of feel.  I felt like I was at the beach ready to order some seafood.  I tried the beet salad which was SO delicious served with little fried balls of goat cheese and really wonderful olive toast.  I also tried the chowder which was super creamy and intense bacon taste ifyou are into that .. Well I am for sure !!!  Last but not least I had the branzino served with squash carpaccio and pomegranate and mustard and orange.. Omg such unique flavors I loved every bite.  I would definitely recommend going and next time I am ordering oysters for sure !!!
