  1. Dining in, I would recommend grabbing a table in the back patio. It's a nice enclave where you can enjoy your lunch (or dinner) in some sunshine. If the weather is inclement, though, skip eating inside. There's only a few tables and the place gets cramped with the open grill/kitchen.

This place is diner food, a little less greasy. They have your usual soups, salads, sammies, grilled chicken, etc. with veg, but it's a little fresher than your average diner. Score one for Midtown lunch!

  2. Ever since Teresa's went away, I've been like a nomad looking for his salad. So I tried Elite Food Bar, and it was kind of weird.

The block it's on is kind of devoid of many other commercial enterprises, to the point where you almost feel like you're lost. But keep walking, it's there… I'd read (here on Yelp!!!!) about their salads, and gave them a shot. There is a little bar where you tell the guy what you want in your salad, and he makes it for you, but it's sort of jammed into a sit down restaurant. Kind of odd.

They also don't list how much toppings are, only that they're "extra". I got a large salad with 5 toppings, which came out to $7.95. A decent deal, but I'm still on the lookout for cheaper.

  3. Great little spot hidden amongst the tall nondescript buildings of the UN neighborhood. The place is as narrow as a corridor but has a friendly staff with a fun chalked menu overhanging the servers- wish it had more description or a list of item options, but they are quick to offer a paper menu. i ordered the prosciutto signature sandwich (since I'm a sucker for prosciutto), featuring tomatoes, basil, and fresh mozzarella. I originally thought it was supposed to have peppers, but maybe I was mistaken. The helping of prosciutto was extremely generous. It tasted a little bit like thinly sliced deli ham. instead of prosciutto, but it was good nonetheless. Will be back here again on my walk home from work. There is literally nothing else here, so glad to see some life.

  4. Nice little surprise for the area. Classic case of not judging the book by its cover.

Upon entering it's nondescript storefront that looks like a convenience store, there are few seats up front before a grill with pacing cooks. You may think of it as a grab and go. Even the generic name of this place is reminiscent of the pre-made, pay-pay-by-the-pound eateries that are far too prevalent in NY. But I assure you to give it a chance.

I was surprised to be offered seating in the back by the friendly staff. I was then surprised to be offered seating in their heated outdoor section behind the back. May be a bit grotesque with an improvised outdoor section with clear vinyl skylights now murky due to the slime and crap from the surrounding buildings and trees, but it gets credit for one thing: it's quiet. Opportunity to get away from the area if only for an hour.

Their menu is filled with American, and even New York, classics. A lot of them are surprisingly of good quality makeup. Good burgers cooked the way I want. A quality proscuitto sandwich that will satisfy a New Yorker. Omelets that probably place it high on the breakfast list in its neighborhood.

Again, give this place a chance.

  5. Wow, THANK YOU SEAMLESS for introducing me to this place. One Sunday after some night-before-shenanigans my body was in desperate need of eggy fuel, yet didn't want to leave the bed for diner grub. This place had good reviews and a nice-sized breakfast menu so off I went!

I ordered an omelet which was absolutely delicious, not runny, and packed with all the ham, cheese, and veggies to my heart and stomach's content. A shoutout goes to the potatoes too which were equally plentiful and excellent.

The only reason I'm not giving a full five-stars is because their iced drinks are way overpriced. Almost $7 for an iced cappuccino is a tad much in my opinion…though it was pretty good, just not worth a small fortune.

  6. One of the top rated restaurants in my area on Seamless, so I gave it a shot.

I got the classic press panini for lunch, which came with their awesome thick cut crispy fries. The panini was on what looked like cuban bread which is better than that flatbread crap some delis use. It had turkey, ham, swiss, and honey mustard – a classic but great combo. The fries were my favorite part of the meal, and luckily they serve a generous portion.

Delivery was super fast and everything was nicely packaged and fresh. My only complaint is that it's a bit pricey for lunch – about $13 for a sandwich and fries. They should consider a lunch special for a few hours.

This easily became bookmarked as a lunch spot.

  7. I like their food. They serve American food and I don't know what is different from average American food but their food is good. I like their hamburgers, fries, wraps and Greek style cheese pie. This place is very narrow, but you can find a back yard seating when weather is nice. The view surrounded by buildings from this backyard is interesting. If you go their in the morning or afternoon after lunch time or evening, it is not crowded and relaxing.

  8. I love elite. I am here at least two to three times a week. Teddy the owner is great. I alternate between the sausage and egg sandwich and the bacon and egg sandwich. I've also had burgers and salads for lunch. A friendly and consistently delicious spot!
