Came in here to kill time while waiting for dinner down the block. At first I thought Gristedes was an organic supermarket but turns out to just be a regular one but overpriced. Saw some items labeled Shop Rite in there, are they the same company? There was virtually no sales, for example: I can buy generic brand popcorn for under $2 but here it was $3+ and no discount. Just a regular old market, nothing special in my eyes.
1 star? More like 0 stars. This place is such a dump. I only shop here because I literally live upstairs. If I never set foot in here agin it would be too soon. Awful management, understaffed by cashiers with terrible attitudes, filthy store with with a bizarre layout. I happily walk the extra blocks to Whole Foods and pay double just to avoid this place. AW-FUL!
Unlike restaurants, with supermarkets, a lot of people won't review them until they have a problem. When I first moved to Chelsea, I was looking for a good supermarket near by, so I turned to Yelp. The reviews on here completely deterred me to this Gristedes location. I decided to try Trader Joes instead but couldn't deal with the crowds and missed my name brand productions (hipsters everywhere are gasping in horror). I decided to give this location a try…nothing is wrong with it. They offer small portions for people living on their own and had everything I needed. They do have a sign on the register that says sometimes the labels scan a different price than marked which from reading the reviews on yelp, I knew to keep an eye out for and watched to make sure the register said the same price as the label.
I don't like Gristedes in general, but this one is particularly bad (not to mention dingy and disorganized)… If it were at all possible I'd gladly give it zero stars… Seriously though it puts the "EW! GET ME THE F-CK OUT OF THIS SH-THOLE" in "Grosstedes."

Gristedes, I'm sticking up for you!
