Had a lovely dinner here few evenings ago. I was with a group of friends with kids. Children got their own menu with terrific choices.
Our meal was tasty. We shared a delicious caprese salad, grownup eat salmon, steak, and tacos. Kids had mini burgers and pasta. Excellent cocktails and wine.
Services was quick and polite. Restaurant is quiet, with good vibes. Loved the entrance's big window, 'cause it filters amazing sunlight colors!
For me this place is all about the Sunday brunch.
This is a perfect place to stop by on the way to, or coming from, Prospect Park which makes this an amazing spot for brunch on Sundays. Sometimes it can get a little crowded because it's not a huge space, but it's never crazy busy. My wife and I can come in and get served usually with no wait, but a party of four or more might want to make reservations. The spot is great, perfect for an afternoon date, the food is good and the service is great.
I should point out that the burgers from 12th street are damned good as well. You wouldn't think it, but I would include this on the short list of the best burgers in Brooklyn. It's just a nice and juicy patty that melts in your mouth. And fried onions…my favorite burger topping.
One time, I was in Grand Central Station and I swear i saw Tia Carrere! Now, being a huge "Wayne's World" fan, I thought "Oh cool, Tia Carrere", but then I realized I hadn't seen her in anything since the Johnson administration, so then I bemoaned that sad fact. (insert frowny face here)
But you know what won't make you bemoan anything? A visit to the bar part of the 12th Street Bar & Grill. This place is dangerously convenient to me and I just don't go there enough!
I stopped by after spending a grueling three hours with my CPA (don't ask, just never get divorced) so I needed a beer and food. After a lovely Lagunitas IPA, I got down to work on my delicious burger. Prepared excellently, the burger is big and juicy…you definitely need multiple napkins to eat this bad boy. The fries are good too.
While enjoying my food and a subsequent IPA, I was entertained by listening to the young guy beside me tell his pal he could save Social Security* by having everyone from his generation stop paying now as long as they promised not to take any benefits when they get old, because when you're 27, like that's never going to happen, right?
The restaurant part of the bar is kind of fancy, but also very good (try the mussels)

*Genius! If everyone under the age of 30 stopped paying FICA, then surely that immediate loss of revenue wouldn't have any impact on the ability of the fund to pay benefits!
Surprised at all the problems people have had with this place. We had planned on going to Double Windsor but it was packed and someone told us 12th St had a good burger. I was surprised that the menu was much more interesting than bar food but stuck with my burger plan and it was indeed very good, if a little overly cheesy. One person got butternut squash ravioli and one got tuna tartare and they seemed happy. Drinks from their cocktail menu were decent too, surprised someone got charged for shaking a Stoli martini (?!). We were in the nicer room I guess, didn't really figure out the two separate spaces but it was very pleasant and our server was great.
Came here on a Saturday night around 11:45 after watching a movie at a theater nearby. My friend and I were starving after the movie and wanted to do a quick late night dinner, but most restaurants already had their kitchen closed before 12. Luckily for us, we called this place and their kitchen was open TILL 12, which meant we had to go in quickly. The waiter/bartender was super friendly, attentive, and accommodating. I had the hanger steak in in a port balsamic sauce which also came with fries and a side of sauteed spinach. My friend had their burger which also came with fries as well as onion straws. Both were medium rare, and for two hungry people, a pretty good dinner, but nothing to rave about. They do cut up the steak for you and my only complaint was that there could have been more sauce. Both cooked perfectly and the fries were not soggy. The bar stays open till 4. The tricky part is that there are actually two sides of this establishment. One is the restaurant and a building over is their bar. They look nothing like each other! The restaurant side looks quite fancy, whereas the bar side looks more like your average dive bar, but a tad cleaner. There's a selection of beers I have never heard of, which can be fantastic if you're a beer fanatic (which I am not)!
Always full, but I attribute a lot of that to the lack of competition in the very immediate area. I'm pretty sure that's why it's my parents' standby. It's small and crowded and very loud. Last time we went they put us in the middle of the restaurant, close to the front door, which for some reason people kept wanting to hold open for ridiculous periods of time. That would be fine in May, but I was pretty unhappy in February, and we had to keep asking people to please close the door. Would it kill them to put up one of those little temporary vestibules with and extra door off to the side so the wind wouldn't have a direct path to the center of the restaurant? Our salads came as mostly greens and none of the "withs" (tomatoes, blue cheese, etc.), although when we asked for more, they obliged (this may have led to nasty surprises in our food, but I'm alive to tell, so I guess it didn't kill me). The service was also quite slow, and we kept having to flag people down. The food was tasty, but nothing special–any American-type restaurant could make the same, and I could probably put it together at home. I dunno, when you have a restaurant I'd think you could do something more interesting than plain, unseasoned shoestring fries, or at least have a more interesting option. Anyway, I'm sure I"ll be back, the food is fine and the prices aren't ridic, but it's not my first choice.
We have now eaten dinner at 12th Street Grill three times and been to the attached bar as well. On the whole, I really like it here and have yet to have a bad meal. Pluses: great music, excellent bartenders, bread is delicious and there are several choices, appetizers/salads are big enough for sharing, excellent and reasonably priced burger. Super plus: at least at dinner time, no small children – a rarity in Park Slope. Minuses: service, while always pleasant, can be lackluster – waitresses disappear for long stretches, menu is kind of standard for the neighborhood although some of the specials are very interesting, mains are very expensive. Frankly I am always astonished how empty the restaurant is on a weeknight.
My family and I have been coming here for as long as I can remember. We come here out of convenience, and the food used to be consistent. Ever since the renovation, this restaurant has gone WAY down hill.
The staff, and management is very rude. It comes to show how important hospitality is to give a restaurant a good review. The food is not terrible, but definitely overpriced for what it is. Brunch is disappointing.
My Mother and sister had such a terrible experience here recently. They came in for dinner, and the staff wouldn't seat them where they wanted to sit. They claimed they had a reservation (I guess they were a no show), and they seated an older couple there. The restaurant was not crowded at all. They weren't given any flexibility on where to sit. It seems that this restaurant really only accommodates those that are above the age of 50.
Before this incident, I ordered $100 worth of take out, and they put the mashed potatoes in the same container as the salmon (presentation was really messy). Almost all of my mussels were closed, and my grilled salmon had a white sauce spread all over the top (that I did not ask for).
Again, the staff is strange, owner is always drinking in his own establishment (not professional to begin with), and I think his drinking reflects in his personality and decision making as a business owner. I wish I could write a full review about this place. Some things are better left unsaid. Park Slope offers an array beautiful restaurants with superb food. Go elsewhere.
