Definitely coming here every time I'm in Williamsburg. 16 Handles a great spot to stop by before heading to all the nearby music venues. The store is large and has SO many flavors. I sampled most and especially loved the taro! We even got to sit in the private-ish circle booth, which made eating our froyo immensely more enjoyable.
16 handles is probably the best frozen yogurt chain in NYC. They are well designed, fun, clean, and generally well run (ie quick). The branch in Chelsea is the best as it has lots of people and is fun.
The problem with this branch is that it's in a kind of dull location, is always overly heated, and just doesn't have the 'vibe' of other branches.
This is a great location. There aren't really any other good choices for yogurt even close to walking distance, which makes this place even more valuable.
I guess hipsters don't really like yogurt, as this place is usually pretty empty. This is really the only good dessert spot I like in this area, aside from the 10 minute or so walk down to OddFellows for some really excellent ice cream. If you are trying to keep it a bit lighter though, this is your best bet around here.
Read any other review from any other 16 Handles in NY to find out more. They're all the same now.
Came here to try out their frozen yogurt because my sweet tooth was craving after dinner nearby! I had heir salted Carmel and mango flavor yogurt. Mango had a very strong taste like icy mango but nothing like real mango flavor. The salted Carmel was pretty salty in my opinion which was soso. The toppings were standard from what any other frozen yogurt place would offer such as fruits, mochi, bubble balls and etc.
Nothing to rave about but nothing to diss on either. If you've been to any 16 Handles, it's no different. Lots of flavors, lots of fresh topping options, and they have a rewards card program as well for any of you froyo addicts (like me…sorry not so sorry).
Service is fine.
When fro-yo was my obsession, I was very loyal to one particular brand- not 16 handles. This 16 handles business seemed like trickery with the whole self-service thing… "so you're telling me i can have as much yogurt as i want… okay… GADZUKES, how much is my yogurt?!?"
Fast forward to several years down the line and I have not only learned self control, but also to be open minded about dessert. My lady pals and I had a GNO and ended it with some fro-yo (does it annoy you when i say fro-yo? I kinda hate myself for saying fro-yo).
This 16 Handles isn't really new but its so incredibly clean and inviting that I felt the flutters in my tummy telling me to "GET THE BIG ONE!". I pulled in the reigns to have just a taste of two yogurts before making my decision. I ultimately decided on the cookies and cream with peanut butter.
Once you serve yourself your ice cream, you can then add toppings from the topping bar. They have anything from fruit to cookies and even some things you wouldn't even think of putting on your yogurt.
I tried to keep it classy (and affordable) with pb and oreo yogurt topped with chocolate chips, strawberries, slivered almonds and for fun goji granola. $7 later i was half crying, half smiling over my dessert.
All jokes aside, you pay for what you pile on. What a great way to teach yourself about portion control.
Great, clean establishment and I would definitely come back
I absolutely love frozen yogurt and love even more that I have one so close to me. This location is clean and the staff is nice and greets you. I always come to this location and get my favorite yogurt and toppings.
As far as 16 Handles goes, the layout and the set up of the location in Williamsburg is no different from any others that I have been to. As the name indicates, there are 16 rotating flavors with some favorites like Euro Tart, Vanilla, and Chocolate always as an option.
The toppings are relatively fresh, although I am knocking out a couple stars because the frosted animal crackers tasted really stale (I feel like the dry toppings were left out overnight…) and the frosting was all melted.
This location recently transformed its interior with four different art installations, including work from Noble Goods, Art of Plants and Wax / Surf Co. Cool interior, but it's only relevant if you eat your froyo in the store. It unfortunately seems like most people take it to go and eat outside.
The Williamsburg location is all about being local. For the toppings, you can get treats (peanut butter granola bars, coconut chocolate blondies, etc.) from Brooklyn bakery Ovenly's, as well as salted caramel sauce from local Spoonable llc's.
