Average Chinese food. The best thing I ordered was the eggroll. Other ok dishes included the general tsao's chicken and the cold noodles. Skip on the ribs and the beef & garlic sauce (slimy snow peas!).
Delivery was fast, but came with a major attitude.
I doubt that I will be ordering from here again.
I overheard a patron inquiring a second round of wine & the waiter goes "Why not? Life is beautiful". Oh, you smooth Chinese devil. What was that? That was the sound of my panties dropping.
21 Home's Kitchen is the King of Chinese food of Flatiron. Aside from the fact that they're the best at authentic Chinese cuisine in Flatiron, they're also the only restaurant with authentic Chinese cuisine in Flatiron. Their only competitor is Lin's Kitchen but they're Take-Out. They're also pretty good. I love me some Take-Out.
They're not getting those 4 stars just by proximity though. "This is the best pan-fried noodles I've ever had." – Brother
The color scheme (orange & green) is very off-putting & the bathroom is oddly very cold; I feel like I'm pooping in an ice cream truck. But the food is legit. Honestly, there's nothing special about this restaurant other than the waiters. It's just like a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown but the prices are a couple of dollars higher, considering the location. But that's probably special in itself: Chinatown quality Chinese food, not in Chinatown.

The picture looked really good and certainly looks much better than most chinese restaurants in this area, so my coworker and I decided to go there for lunch. Atmosphere was nice and service was fast. Waiters are friendly. The only down side is that the food was not as delicious as we expected. We were both born and raised in China so we must have high standards. Maybe there lunch menu is Americanlized. We plan to try regular dishes next time if we go again.
The food is good but not many vegetarian options. They even put meat in tofu dishes.
The lunch specials are a pretty good deal but yet again- not many veg options.
This is a step above your regular chinese takeout place and it is reflected in the price.
It's a very decent Chinese restaurant with below the average price!

double cooked pork – I don't know what they served was, and there was nothing in it looked like double cooked pork..
egg plant with garlic sauce – egg plant was under cooked and less flavored
Tried 21HK for take out lunch today – the tables were full and there was a steady flow of patrons in and out – all good signs. My order was taken promptly and food was in hand within what felt like 5 minutes. My shrimp and broccoli was a perfect portion and not overly sauced, as Chinese places are wont to do. It also came w a side of rice – white, brown or fried, and soup or soda.
This is where the points start to slide – 1) I don't eat rice since I'm gluten intolerant so I would have appreciated another substitute and 2) on a warm day, I don't want soup and honestly does anyone drink soda anymore? Both these supplements would not bother me so if I didn't think that they were reasons to inflate the price of the actual meal. At $9.50, this is not a cheap lunch for what is otherwise a pretty straightforward dish at a modest serving size.
At $6-7, I would consider working 21HK into my lunch rotation but at current, the value is just not there.
Just ordered from seamless delivery… Why? How? What the heck is celery doing in my general tso's chicken? I hate celery, my dinners ruined. Chickens meh mostly fried breading not much chicken in there…
Not like the home kitchen I'm used to…
I was excited for an alternative to Szechuan Gourmet, Cafe China, and Lan Shang, some of the great Chinese options near our old office location. Home's Kitchen's menu looked very similar, and I was hoping for a similar experience. Unfortunately it hasn't matched up.
First off, if you're taking food to-go, be sure to call ahead. I arrived with some coworkers but ordered my meal to-go while they ordered to eat-in. Not only did they get their soups and entrees first, but I could've eaten faster there in the time it took to get my to-go bag. They probably have different cooking queues and didn't expedite mines due to the fact my coworkers were eating there too.
My tofu and vegetables lunch was subpar. I didn't want anything too heavy, hence the veggie option, but the sauce was way too thick and oily. My wonton soup had a huge layer of oil on top, and instead of the brown rice asked for, I received oily veggie fried rice. I picked through my meal and just ate the meatier veggies (tofu, broccoli, water chestnuts, peppers). Everything else was just drenched in sauce and soaking it in the rice didn't help as the rice was already so seasoned.
While there, I saw a guy order mapo tofu and it looked and smelled amazing. I might be back to try that, but from my first visit, not impressed.
