The beauty of small American diners lies in its simplicity, quick and friendly service, and consistent food. And of course, your bottomless cup of joe. This diner has just that and I have never had a bad experience here.
I am aware that they don't have food to die for, but what they do have is amazing grits (hard to find in NYC), and all around solid breakfast options. The cute seating area with flowers at each table is a nice bonus! They also have the classic booths that you can find in any diner.
For brunch, you can usually get your food within 5-7 minutes of ordering, and the waiters come around frequently to make sure your caffeine needs are fully satisfied at all times.
The meal you get here is very affordable, and it's a great deal when you think about how much food you are getting.
Would highly recommend for breakfast/brunch, if you're in the area. If you're far away, I wouldn't necessarily travel here.. I'm sure you can find a comparable diner near where you are too 🙂
Average food, average service, average ambiance.
Triple Decker is right across from my aunt's apartment on the UES. I remember coming here when I was much younger. Now that I am in the process of (fingers crossed) relocating to NYC, I had to visit my aunt. The only place she really likes to go is Triple Decker (don't ask why), so I took her here.
It was later in the night. I decided to order a Chicken sandwich whereas my Aunt ordered blueberry pancakes. She loved her pancakes (always has), but my sandwich was okay Yes, its a dinner and I ordered some chicken. Get over it. The chicken was dry and the sandwich was so so.
Besides the food, the total bill came to $17.00 with an order of blueberry pancakes, chicken sandwich, one coffee, and one fountain beverage. That price is a steal.
Worst piece of crap diner in the neighborhood. Avoid this place. Service has gone way down hill over the last few years. This last visit they had the nerve to serve me a turkey ruben with burnt blackened bread and cheese. I waited 30 min for garbage and had no more time on my lunch hour. The female server put it in front of me expected me to eat it, the bread was like a brick of charcoal. That being said, if she had come to me and explained that they burned my food and needed to remake it, it would have been fine. But the kitchen sent it out and she knowingly served it. This diner used to be better. Trust me when I tell you it was charred and inedible. I've had many terrible experiences here in the past year or so and I've been going to this diner for a decade. Unacceptable. Better diners in the area. Avoid.
Stopped by here because a different restaurant we were planning on going to for brunch had a very long line.
Food was average. What was disappointing was that their menu said that they would have berry waffles / pancakes / french toast, but they did not have any berries, in fact the only fruit that they did have was bananas.
The wait staff was very inpatient and not considerate to our orders. I had to flag down the staff multiple times just to get a refill on my coffee.
Definitely not coming back here.
I wanted a change from the higher prices dinners in the neighborhood so we thought we'd try 3 Decker. It was just OK. I had a cheeseburger deluxe with fries. It was good but not very juicy. Also it didn't come with some raw onion, this perplexed me. Hubby had eggs and he seemed happy enough. The service though was not good. Our waiter seemed to be busy with other tables in another side of the restaurant and our food was ready at the window (we could see it), and it sat there for too long until he brought it. I would have liked my food to be brought when it came out hot. Also he didn't check back with us so I wasn't able to ask for the missing raw onion. All in all this was a cheaper priced dinner and I don't think I'll be returning.
run of the mill diner food. I've had breakfast and lunch here. I enjoyed the large portions of salad. The breakfast was the same as any of the diners. greasy, fast, and filling. The waitress, a spanish lady is SUPER nice.
Plastic in the huevos rancheros and uncooked eggwhites. Passable omelettes and waffles though.
Oh you know.. the standard diner fare with a Mexican twist given the area. Came here for breakfast/brunch with 2 peeps around 11ish, with no lines or waiting.
Decor- non existent (except for the strangely pink painted front doors… it otherwise really looks like a general store). Service.. very , very fast. But don't expect all your food to come out at once if you ordered some kind of side. Portions..very, very big. Prices..very very cheap. Food..very very average.
What we ordered: diners always have bottomless menus. I got the "crispy" Belgian waffle with a side of hominy grits, and sausage. The sausage? Real breakfast sausage. The grits? From the box, unflavored grits.. and lots of it for $2.50 . I didn't like this much at all. My waffle? A bit dry. But fine with syrup and butter.
My bf and his friend ordered: two omelettes; my bf the California one (with ham, mushroom, onion?)- his friend- egg white with spinach. Both were enormous. Both said their food was good. The breakfast hash was kind of like mushy potatoes.. I like the more crispy wedges, personally.
Everything was some $5-6. But after reading Laura O's review just now, I'm getting a little sick to my stomach. I'd try to avoid this place in the future (though we did not see any vermin, don't even get me started on my fear/loathing of vermin).
