I should start by saying I don't eat meat, but 354 Steakhouse is a great addition to the neighborhood.
I don't go often (since I don't eat meat), but my friends who do eat meat love their steak. I first visited for Sunday Brunch shortly after they opened. The brunch was reasonably priced, lots of things a vegetarian could eat, and best of all the owners spent some time at our table letting us know their history at JD's Steak Pit. This may be the first restaurant that they own, but they are veterans in the Steakhouse world.
I've gone with several friends who do eat meat, and one of them has gone back multiple times. He's picky about steak, so that's a high compliment. If you don't eat meat like me, there are still lots of good choices, which is sort of atypical of steak houses. Usually I can't find anything except to order a couple sides or a salad. Of course they do have fish if you are a pescatarian, but they also have a hot vegetarian plate and lots of salads you can modify to be vegetarian.
In short, great for steak lovers and their veggie loving friends alike.
I go to this restaurant usually about once a week, and often order take out. The take our orders have large portions . Excellent!!!! This place is no longer BYOB, the food is still great just not as economical.
They have daily specials, and the excellent part is that they are typed out and given with the menu. So, the prices are listed. Some of my favorite items are the ropa vejia, churrasco, and the central Latino salad. The empanadas are also very yummy. I've never been disappointed with my food.
Last night the hubby was driving home from work, after the usual ten minutes of "I don't know, what do you want to eat?' he decided he wanted meat. Good meat. I told him I read this place delivers so I am sure we can pick up and so we figured we would try it.
What we ordered:
Spicy Buffalo Wings as an appetizer
Two 10 oz Filet Mignon Steaks, Cooked Medium
Mashed Potatoes
Sauteed Mushrooms
New York Cheesecake
Hubby wanted the wings and he said they were pretty good, the smell reminded me of Hooter's wings. The steaks however, they were both cooked PERFECTLY. In fact, I have been to other steakhouses that were more expensive and supposedly better (NYC steakhouses) but apparently not everyone can cook a steak to the perfect temperature and pink inside. They were still pretty warm and tasted great. Lightly seasoned, my hubby loved it..I would have added one more dash of salt. The steak had a great sear and crust and was very juicy on the inside just as it should be. The mashed potatoes were also great, tasted homemade and a good portion. We also each got two onion rings with each steak which I didn't expect. I don't eat onion rings but hubby liked them. The sauteed mushrooms were good, they were quality baby bellas sliced up, not some sort of brownish mush that comes out of a can. Now, as amazing as the steaks were, the dessert which I had low expectations of, BLEW ME AWAY. Not from some bakery, this cheesecake was homemade and INCREDIBLE. It was the creamiest cheesecake I have ever had. It came with homemade whipped cream which was also just perfect. I want to order an entire cheesecake from them. They do now have a full bar as well, hubby had a New Castle while waiting.
Next time, I think we will eat there. Just so the steaks are at their hottest. Overall, we were very pleasantly surprised to find this little gem and will soon be back. I seriously might order just cheesecake though..cheesecake for lunch? That's okay right?
We ordered lunch from here and got the cheese steak and Cuban sandwiches with sides of onion rings and meat empanadas.
First of all … portions are very generous. Cuban sandwich was very tasty with tender pork, slices of ham, pickles and cheese pressed onto a crisp roll. Got it with tostones, which were thin and crunchy. The steak sandwich was also quite good and 354 accommodated by allowing switch to cheddar (from American) and adding sauteed onions and mushrooms. The onion rings were good but the empanadas were delicious. The pastry was fried but light and the filling was savory. Plus I got 5 very decent sized empanadas in the order. The only thing not eaten were the fries, which were not crispy enough for my taste.
This was for take out from the online lunch menu. Pricing was not updated on the site, maybe off by a buck or two on a couple items, but not a big deal. In summary, a very good value for a very good meal.
It is a beautiful thing when you discover a hidden gem in your neighborhood. It is even better when it is a restaurant, but when it is a steakhouse; "oh yeah, tasty beef". So with that said, 354 Steakhouse is my gem in the area.
I don't want to hear that S & W is better. Or The Palm rules. Or Peter Lugers is the best. Blah, blah, blah. We are not in these restaurants. We are in 354 Steakhouse in Cliffside Park and they are doing a great job with their steaks.
I kind of found this place by accident. Wanted to have an afternoon beer and as I was walking by; bam there it was. Decent size bar with 12 or so seats. A partition separates the bar from the 15 or so tables on the other side. Old school wood decor with 6 or so TVs throughout. Very welcoming feeling.
Now on my first couple of visits, beer was in order. Bud Lite; nothing fancy. They seem to have the standards with a decent array of spirits. Wine list very small, but for a neighborhood place this was just fine.
Had the rib eye one afternoon. Delicious. Perfectly cooked to medium. Very juicy and tender. Did not have the crust of other steakhouses, but was still delicious. Steak comes with a choice of potato and a salad as a starter. Very nice meal.
On my other visits; I had a Cuban Sandwich. This sucker was huge and very tasty. Pork tender. Bread crisp. Ratio of ingredients on point. 354 Steakhouse seems to also have a Cuban Menu. Very surprise by this and can't wait to try.
Had their Malbec on a couple of occasions. Very nice table wine. Won't break the bank at $29 or so.
Overall, great place for a meal. The steak I had was very good. Bartenders very friendly. Service, like you where in someones home. Eat, drink and be merry. Like the feel. Valet parking. Awesome lunch specials. You could eat for days with their lunch specials. Bottom line, 354 Steakhouse is a solid place in Cliffside Park for drinks, lunch and dinner.
I've come here several time during the later parts of the evening to have dinner at the bar and have a few drinks. The beet salad is my favorite item here but they need to stop being so frugal with the cheese. The crab cakes are really awesome too but the highlight to my dinner was hands down the sea bass. Lightly broiled with broccoli rabe and sweet potato. So delicious and I would totally recommend for anyone who is new to the place.
