I usually use dumplings or a simple noodle dish as a good gauge for any mediocre Chinese take-out place. Normally I'll pick up an order from Friendly's or Wing Hua II because they're pretty much directly downstairs from my apartment. Sudden impromptu decision to try the Chinese/Mexican (Yes, It's a joint cultural joy of ethnic take-out foods!) that's a block or two further away. You know, walking the extra 200 paces was SO worth it. I have only nice thoughts of them so far, though I haven't tried any of their Mexican dishes yet. Shockingly the best dumplings I've had near my apartment in the neighborhood. Thinner dough is used for the casings and the insides tasted juicy and well seasoned. The shrimp roll was decent and had actual shrimp in it and wasn't overly greasy. The sesame noodles I ordered tonight were also actually the best I've had in a long while. Low and behold, they actually put sesame seeds into the dish! The peanut sauce isn't weird as hell like it usually can be a mistaken mess of paste and soy sauce. Nope, these folks are doing crappy Chinese food right. Can't wait to get drunk and try their other menu offerings.
