I love this place ! Burgers are amazing and juicy! Staff is friendly and prices are decent . Loud busy atmosphere and great location right across from a great movie theater perfect for date night ! Parking is best after 7pm. I will be back for sure !
Forget 5 Napkin Burger go to BareBurger! After seeing a movie across the street we were starving. We looked around and 5 Napkin was right there! My friend had tried it before and sounded like she enjoyed her burger. I said I'd give it a try since I was ready to eat my handbag!
First, service was slow.
Second, I felt cramped since the place was crowded.
Third, the food wasn't that tasty.
Fourth, it is way overpriced.
Fifth, the place didn't appear clean.
Try it, you may like it! As for me, I won't be back!
I'm from Southern California, which makes me a burger snob and connoseur (sp). My verdict here? To quote Jimmie JJ Walker (or is it JJ Jimmie Walker): "DYNOOOO-MITTEEE!!!" Onion rings were surreal, with just the right batter to onion ratio. I didn't have their 'signature' burger, but rather, this blue cheese one, and it was awesome — a "plump" non-dry medium. (I don't do bloody because blood drowns out beef flavor.)
We came here with the family and we were seated promptly on a Tuesday evening. We were able to enjoy happy hour prices for the delicious foods choices at our table because we were a large party and had a child with us. It isn't so often that waiters are willing to go out of there way to make a crowd so happy. We will definitely be back!
Stopped in prior to the movies. It was a decent burger, flavorful and cooked well, but not so memorable that I would have to go back.
Came in for sunday night happy hour (10p – 12a) after a movie. $5 cosmos and wine, and $3 beers, as well as sliders and hand rolls for $2 a piece and $0.50 wings. I had the sliders with rosemary aioli and caramelized onions – the toppings were great, but the burgers themselves had no seasoning.
Cosmos were good and so was service at the bar. Will definitely come back after watching a movie on Sunday night. But won't order a burger.
This place is totally over-hyped. There was a wait for this place. That I wouldn't have minded so much if the food they had was actually any good! I did like that they took your number down to text you when your table was ready.
My friend and I sat down and we looked at the menu… They had sushi on this menu as well? Seemed odd. The salads that came out looked pretty good. We ordered burgers though, because we figured, their signature dish had to be good?? Nope. The burgers weren't particularly that big and not that tasty… I ordered a medium rare burger and my friend ordered a medium well burger. Fairly certain that they mixed our orders up and she got the medium rare and I got the medium well. My friend didn't even notice hers was pretty pink and soft still and mine was cooked to beyond coming back… So yeah… I was not too happy about that.
To top it off, I finished that off with 1 napkin. This was a 1 napkin burger.
Reading through the reviews, everyone's main gripes seem to be terrible service and burgers cooked to a degree of the cook's choosing rather than what was ordered by the diner, so I was mildly nervous about how this experience would go.
I'm happy to report I experienced neither, medium 5 Napkin burger (kept it OG – figured the namesake had to be the best on the menu) arrived medium and I was not ignored for 20 minutes upon arrival.
It took about 5 minutes to be seated and a minute for the waiter to introduce himself.
Placing the order also went smoothly, and the watermelon rhubarb cocktail I enjoyed in the mean time was a bit on the small and weak side (especially for $11) but it was still quite tasty…because watermelon juice is awesome.
The burger seemed to take a bit long to come out, but it was a fairly busy Saturday night, so I'll cut them some slack. I wasn't in a hurry to catch a movie, etc so it didn't bother me.
Once the burger arrived it was a.) enormous and b.) cooked properly as I mentioned above. It was appropriately juicy (not greasy) and the meat itself was good. I wasn't a fan of the onions…caramelized my ass, they just tasted weird…but the burger was overall a decent size and tasty for the price…it by no means struck me as a ripoff, but it also didn't knock my socks off either. It was alright. The fries were nice and crispy, albeit a bit bland. A little salt cured that though.
The final damage (including tip) ended up being $35 for a burger and a cocktail. A bit steep, but I knew what I was getting myself into.
Verdict: I won't go out of my way to return, but if I want a burger in a fancier environment than Shake Shack, then I'll consider it.
Best burger in New York though? Hell no, give me a Shackstack any day.
