  1. I've been to 5th and Mad a few times, almost always for a happy hour of some sort. They must cater to larger parties really well because I've been to work, alumni, and friend events here that have gone pretty smoothly. It's a large space with ample seating downstairs and a nice private area upstairs. Along with high top tables and bar seating, you can get cozy on the couches or chairs towards the back of the second floor space.

If you choose to have a few bites, I would recommend the calamari. It is super crispy and seasoned perfectly. The sliders and jerk chicken satay are worthy apps as well, though be aware the jerk seasoning definitely has a kick to it!

  2. I went here last night a Yelp event and I was pleasantly surprised. It is a pretty big bar so they have plenty of room for big groups. We have drinks and appetizers and everything was really good. I would definitely go back here with a group or plan an event here in the future. This was a great way to check out the bar and get a feel for a new spot.

  3. I was recently here for an office happy hour, and 5th & Mad more than did the trick. The bartenders here are quick and attentive, and use top notch spirits for even the most basic cocktails. (For example, Myers Rum for my Dark and Stormy.) The upstairs space is expansive, and the owners know not to blast the music too loud. I was also impressed by the appetizers, particularly the quality of the chips & queso – I'm usually deathly afraid of cheese sauce due to how often restaurants screw it up – and the sliders. For a happy hour in Midtown, you can't go wrong with 5th & Mad.

  4. Great happy hour or group gathering spot in midtown. Ample space on the 2 floors. Large bars on both floors that serve up a variety of drinks and beers. The upstairs can definitely be for groups and private events. Wonderful bartender service and the burgers were the highlight. Large moist and juicy. Even came with a onion ring in it. Not too crowded and not too noisy so a great spot to catch up with others. Nice atmosphere and swanky couches and tables. I'll be back.

  5. Went for a Yelp event last night so we had the entire upstairs reserved for us.  It was nice and quiet on a Monday after work.  It's nice…considering every bar is ALWAYS packed! You know?

Anyway, I want to say this place is under new ownership (relatively new).   I remember when it was a divey sports bar, went to see the Super Bowl there one year.  Anyway, I say this to point out the fact that it is very spacious.

The new decor is cute, it's vintage-y … very cute.  Lots of dark wood, pretty furniture.  It's appealing.

The staff is great!! So sweet.

Drinks are reasonably priced which again, is awesome…and even better they are transparent about pricing especially if you want to host an event, they give you package pricing up front.  Most places require that you call them, give all of your personal details to the events person and then they give you the rate of like $80 per person for Open Bar.  This place is cute if you want to host an open bar birthday party and reserve a space.

The one star that I took away….it was for the bathroom. There's a saloon swinging door on the bathroom that almost knocked me out.  While they upgraded the entire bar they didn't do anything to the bathroom.  The stalls are SO SMALL….I'm a girl and I had to pee standing up, lol Seriously.  I'm not saying we need to have Four Seasons accommodations but this bathroom has got to go.  LOL

Back to the good stuff…Drinks were stiff…food looked good although I didn't eat.

I would go back…but just be careful in that bathroom! Haha

  6. The upstairs part of this bar is really nice. They have couches in the back room that gives it a homey vibe. I really enjoyed the back room. I thought it would be perfect for a casual drink with friends. They offer well drinks, but not sure about speciality cocktails.

The only thing I didn't like was that on one of the couches, there seemed to be a collection of saw dust or something. There was a pile of it on the back rest. Ive attached a picture.

  7. – reasonable pricing for the area
    – personable staff
    – large airy comfortable upstairs area with its own bar (though the music can get too loud)
    – can make party reservations without putting down a deposit, without a drink minimum, and they will split the bill for you

  8. Stopped by here to meet my friend to watch USA play in copa soccer, this place is in a good location really close to penn station, happy hour beers are $6 and regularly $8 which is good considering the area, my only gripe is the selection isn't that great but on the same block is the ginger man if I really wanted different beers, this place has a lot of bar space both upstairs and downstairs, all bartenders were really nice and helpful, there is also a pool table at the end of the bar which you can play for $1.50 and can get the change from the bar, one cool thing that was great was that after the USA win the manager bought everyone in the bar a shot of fireball which was really nice and unexpected, I really like the hospitality of this bar, many times that is lost in the city, would be back for sure
