Since my boyfriend and I were saving our stomach for an AYCE one Saturday evening, but we were starving around 1-2PM, we decided to grab a quick bite at this bakery since we were in the area.
Small with limited tables like your typical Chinese bakery. There's buns, bubble tea, coffee, tea, rice dishes, congee, and instant noodles. We decided on the instant noodle and they were so cheap, only $3.00 per bowl!
My boyfriend had the Ham & Egg Instant Noodle Soup. The broth didn't taste like it was heavily filled with MSG. The egg was fried which makes it especially delicious! There was a 2-3 slices of ham (Spam), instant noodles, and also bok choy.
I had the Sausage & Egg Instant Noodle Soup. When I say sausage, it really was a hot dog. My instant noodle soup was really no different from my boyfriend's lunch, just the meat. I thought the instant noodle soup was good. It wasn't savory or wow, but it was good enough.
The women that works at the cafe were a little deaf, didn't seem to hear my boyfriend too well when he was ordering our drinks as well. In any case, the food and the experience here wasn't bad at all.
I stopped by for a quick bite before hopping on the subway. I ordered two roast pork buns.
Many reviews griped about the service but the employees were not rude to me. They acknowledged me when I walked in and I received the correct order. That's all you can really ask for in a Chinese bakery. The roast pork was juicy and flavorful and the bread was soft and moist. Overall, there's nothing to rave about, but nothing to complain about either.
My family grew up coming here often since it was the closest chinese bakery to our house. I'm not a huge fan of the place but I admit their items are cheap compared to elsewhere. I usually get bubble tea drinks from them but I stopped after finding out that they use powder instead of real flavors..
Along the 86 st corridor you'll find this chinese bakery. Near the subway station and a starbucks it's really convenient. You'll find many of variety here so it'll suit all tastes. You'll find baked goods such as pineapple buns and steamed buns such as chicken bao and pork bao's. All are of good quality. The major plus is the dim sum area. A variety of dimsum from fried items to steamed. The shrimp dumplings or bean curd rolls are great. Also the rice congee with 1000 year old egg and pork. Suits the stomach well and they even have fried crullers to accompany.
Service is a bit hit or miss and the ambiance is very casual. Not for a sit down place but a take out quick eats for your commute or a quick snack.
