86 Hot Pot BBQ

“Shaved ice is one of the desserts not meant to be shared as it gets messy after 5 spoons are picking and pushing the dessert around.”

“Its got the usual hotpot/bbq stuff: a self-serve sauce bar, small individual broth pots or a larger shared broth pot, and free shaved ice at the end of your meal.”

“They have around 6 soup bases and we chose pig bone and Chinese herbal soup.”

  1. Decent hot pot place with a good selection to choose from. The all you can eat selection is small but it's fine. You would have to pay extra for other dishes such as blue shell crabs.

We got dessert at the end of our meal and we got asked to leave while enjoying our dessert because there were about 5 groups of people waiting for tables…..it was kind of rude.

  2. I really like this place, I finally tried the BBQ Ayce and for an extra few bucks it was a great experience. The meats I chose were all marinated, I would of liked some unmarinated selections, not sure if they offer it. The hotpot is standard and always on point, service is stellar and plentiful. Staff very friendly and they keep an eye on us almost all times. They are always walking by if you need anything. The sauce section is great, lots of room, lots of items and never empty. There's always peanut sauce and old rotten dirty mother in law sauce. The bring nice large tea glasses and they always hit the hot pot spot too. I have been here three or four times and would easily bring first timers here again in he future.

  3. I came here with my family. The decor was pretty nice. They got nice lightening. For the soup base, I got the pig bone. The soup had a lot of toppings in it. They didn't water down the soup which is a good thing. For the beef, I think it was too thin. I enjoy thin slice beef, but that was definitely way too thin. The fish and crab were really good. Apparently, they also have bbq here but I didn't try it. Also, it is sometimes hard to flag down a waiter or waitress to reorder. At the end of the meal, they offered free shaved ice dessert. Free is always a good thing. The ice was a little sweet. You need to mix the middle to even out the sweetness or else some of it would be very blend. Overall, it was a nice experience.

  4. ayce hotpot is great to have during the middle of winter. this new place is good compared to the past ayce hotpot places in the area. this place is clean and has a decent selection of things to order. $21 for ayce hotpot and $26 for ayce bbq? we came on a monday night so it wasn't busy at all and the waiters were pretty attentive. the meats cooked pretty fast since it was thinly sliced. they charge $2 for the herbal tea in a can. by the end of the meal we were stuffed since we over ordered. thank goodness none of us had a stomachache later on. they serve shaved ice at the end of the meal. make sure you have a room for it

  5. The service here is alright. I don't think there is anything special about this place. I feel that the food selection is small and does not have a lot of food that I'm looking for. The price is expensive for hotpot only since I only went for hotpot, I cannot judge for BQQ selection. Our party kept ordering lean beef rounds after rounds however one time when we told them we want one more platter of beef, they came out with really really fat beef and we didn't want it and ask if we could change it to lean ones. The waiter said sure but we would have to charge extra for this platter then. Other places that I have been to will automatically change it and not charge extra. In a way, that's definitely bad customer service. I am not getting what I am paying for and does not want that platter. Everything else was normal. I guess the highlight was the atmosphere and that there were crabs to choose from.

  6. I really like this place over most AYCE hot pot place. The staffs are courteous and nice. Even though we made reservations, we had to wait a bit and the host keeps going over and apologizing. The food is almost like 99 Favors. I recommend coming here than 99 Favors.

  7. 86th street was missing a hot pot restaurant for a couple of years after hottest 86 closed down.  Luckily this place fulfills the empty void.  Food here seemed fresh minus the fish and shrimp paste (AVOID).  Staff service was fast and friendly.  The sauce bar was clean.  Prices here are comparable with other hot pot/korean bbq places.  They also have free shaved ice at the end of the meal but it wasn't too good.  I'll have to try out the bbq next time I come here.

  8. It was a night to catch up with my girlfriends and what's better than to hotpot the night away. It was a chilly day in New York, so hotpot was definitely the better option. 86 Hotpot opened not to long ago and is still fairly new to the neighborhood of Bensonhurst.

It was quite empty on a Thursday night, but nonetheless, the service was pretty great. 86 Hotpot BBQ has both your regular hotpot and BBQ, we only did hotpot which was $21.99 a person – not bad since it includes seafood (like mussels, clams and crab) which a lot of places don't. The interior was very modern and clean, sauce station was a bit small. The placement of the raw food that came out was on point, they didn't mix the more bloody items with the rest of the food (always a pet-peeve of mine).

At 86 Hotpot, you're given a menu with a list of food and you just mark off what you want. Very efficient and the food came out at a timely manner, which is always a good thing. One thing that might be interesting to know, if you're a party of 4 or less, you'll most likely get a big pot of broth to share whereas if you have a larger party, each person will get their individual pot.

I'd definitely recommend 86 Hotpot, it's very similar to 99 Favors.
