  1. This place has struck out in my book. I will not return.

The price for what you get for a lunch is excessive. I got maybe 5 pathetic strands of chicken in my chicken and broccoli lunch special. I was quickly told that no soup comes with it. Just rice. For 9 bucks …really?

Then to top it off I found a nice small piece of metal (maybe from a Brillo pad or brush??) in my food.

Overpriced, hardly any chicken, with a side of metal. No thanks cafe 88. (This came on the heels of my last visit during which I got take out and the woman gave me attitude after SHE got my order wrong and gave me the wrong items.)

  2. TAKE OUT REVIEW ONLY

Usually Chinese take out is JUST Chinese take out to me, but this changed my view on that. I ordered the Hunan Chicken and the Lemongrass Beef (which is now my new favorite Chinese dish). Both dishes were not oily and tasted very fresh. Also, I love that this place puts a lot of fresh vegetables in the dish and they give a free side of edamame when you order over $30! A lot of places give only one piece of broccoli!!! Order here if you are willing to spend an extra couple bucks for fresher BETTER Chinese food.

$15 Min. for free delivery to West Orange. They also serve other surrounding areas.

  3. I don't know why we always give this place another chance when every time we order, the food is bad. Okay I shouldn't be so mean. There's usually one or two dishes that are decent, but they change every time. This place is so inconsistent and actually pretty pricey for the quality and amount of food you get!

Most recently, the only dish that was edible from our lunch takeout was the Singapore Mei Fun. Tbh it was actually pretty good! But the Beef Chow Fun, Salt and Pepper Pork, and Peking Noodle were so bland we just trashed it all. I remember getting the soup dumplings once and the skin was so thick and soup was soooo salty.

I've tried this place enough times that I can firmly rate it a solid 2 star establishment.

  4. I'm always wary of places that are overextending themselves by offering Chinese, Japanese, Thai and more or less pan-Asian cuisine, and this place is no different.  They do everything just fine, but nothing is exceptional–with the exception of their wonton soup which is light, not too salty and just about as fine a version as I've had.
The rest of the food is just standard Americanized Asian fare.
The prices are reasonable, the service is friendly and accommodating, but in the end, a restaurant comes down to food, and while this is a fine place for occasional take out, there is nothing standout that makes this place special.

  5. I've never been a fan of getting sushi from a Chinese restaurant. I have nothing to base that on, I just always felt it should be from a place dedicated to making sushi. That said, while I am not a sushi aficionado, I really enjoy the sushi from Cafe 88. My favorites include the shrimp tempura roll, shrimp and avocado (or cucumber) roll and the spicy tuna and avocado roll (my hands down favorite!). Everything tastes really  fresh.

I recently started getting delivery from here which I hate doing in the 'burbs (it always takes too long and my food is cold when it gets here), but whether I order sushi or Chinese from here and have it delivered, they are quicker than I would have expected.

  6. Café 88 is an office favorite for lunch. My typical order is shrimp Pad Thai, which I think is really good. Ask for it spicy otherwise it doesn't have a kick to it at all. There egg rolls are also pretty good, up there with some of the better ones I have had out. I find their lunch portion generous, I'm sure some people will be able to eat the whole thing, while others will want more. But it has never left me hungry.

They also have sushi if that's your current pleasure, I don't recall ever trying there sushi, but my coworkers consistently order it, so I'm assuming it's at the very least decent.

  7. I tried one of their Thai dishes today -vegetable pad Thai. It was delicious. I also started with the refreshing  salad with ginger. dressing.  Service is always excellent and pleasant.  Lunch menu portions were generous.  I must try their ice cream on my next visit the green tea or red bean ice creams  sounds yummy!
