Was walking by and loved the old-school sign out front, so I popped my head in for a look. Glad I did. It's very similar to a lot of the more well known Italian butchers in Brooklyn, but I think their selection is larger – especially when it comes to meal-ready side dishes and mains.
Platter after platter of food makes you wish this was an Italian wedding so you could try them all for free… fish, chicken, pasta dishes, vegetable medleys, stuffed mushrooms, etc. I got a heaping bowl of calamari in red sauce for dinner for $9/lb.
In the back there's a room full of fellows, cranking out food, bread, cheeses, etc. I'm jealous I don't live nearby, but then again it's probably better as I'd look like Luciano Pavarotti after a few weeks (as in corpulent, not pushing up the daisies).
According to my Yelp Check-Ins, I've only been to A&S one time. The truth is, I've been here dozens of times. This was one of the first places I went to in NYC, and I frequently visit on weekends around the holidays.
A&S is what every great neighborhood needs. A proper Pork Store. A&S is renowned for their fresh meat and anti paste. I've regularly gone here with my in laws for Easter, Christmas, and just to get proper Italian food. This is what Eataly wishes it could be, and it's located way in south Brooklyn.
Around the holidays it can get busy, but it's so worth it. The guys here are the best!
Get all my daily fresh cold cuts and meat products and they do not disappoint! Always fresh ground beef for when I want to make spicy chili for the bf.
They get 5 stars from me because the key food in the neighborhood never has fresh ground beef and if it wasn't for this place, my bf would go hungry!
Porchuitto is as authentic as it gets here. They carry both domestic and imported. I personally like domestic better since its more salty but the real foodies die for the imported. Worth it to try both.
Ive also recently learned that they have amazing ready food dishes, ranging from lemon grilled shrimp, various style fish filet dishes and the cutlet hero I got here 2 weeks ago was also really good.
This store has been here for 20+ years that Ive lived in this neighborhood and went to elementary school across the street glad I finally started shopping here after so many years.
