  1. I'm not sure if I've had sushi that is as bland and tasteless as this; even Cafe 28's mediocre sushi is better. I got myself some Seamless for a late night at work, and firstly, the delivery time was later than projected. Ok, fine, I can deal. Then the sushi's just so… it's the blandest excuse for sushi ever. Rice didn't have the characteristic vinegar flavor, the fish tasted like cold, orange colored tapioca pieces… Wow. I can't get sushi from this place again.

  2. Not my favorite sushi in the city. Delivery was slow, and everything was kinda small. Not bad quality, but certainly not great. They get some points for cheap.

  3. For midtown sushi lunch this place is pretty decent. They have a $9 Bento Box lunch special that is actually well proportioned and the fish is fresh. Don't order from seamless though , just order from their site direct as I found delivery is better that way.

Also, their miso soup has a real miso flavor, not crazy watery.

  4. I can only review the monster roll, because that's all I've ever gotten here. It's delicious and I was addicted to it for a while there. There was an entire week I bought the roll straight (coming all the way from brooklyn), paying $11 to include brown rice each time.

It wasn't filling. I was always left a little bit hungry. The manager was really nice but the regular servers were stingy. For example, whenever I would order when the manager was there they used to include an orange with each meal, so I got used to it.

Once I went when he wasn't there and had brought a friend so I had two orders. I inquired about the orange and the waiter (who had seen me come multiple times for the week) refused to include it in our meals. After that I vowed to never come back.

My boyfriend introduced me to the space and eats here quite often since he works in the area but I hate the environment/decor so I would always get my food to go. I like that they have the low sodium soy sauce and the manager was really friendly but he needs to train his employees to be easy.

UPDATE: Very recently my boyfriend got me a monster roll from here and I have to say it wasn't as good as I remember it being, so now I'm totally over this place.

  5. From my tips:

It still amazes me when people buy sushi from places which have waitresses/chefs who speak mandarin. Oddly the green tea was good (was matcha) and the oyakodon while nontraditional (due to the egg being big pieces and not being mixed in, the soy not being super sweet, no pickles, etc.) was actually good and well portioned

  6. Grabbed lunch from here via MealPass.

I received a chicken and avocado salad, which came with a side of white rice. The chicken and avocado were decent quality but small in portion, but there was a light orange-colored sauce all over it that ended up adding some soggyness to everything and left me with a puddle of weird sauce-juice at the bottom by the time I was halfway done.

Adding the white rice was good to sop up this and keep some of the flavor, but overall it didn't feel much like a salad at all and more like some meat and light avocado thrown with a sauce on some lettuce.

  7. I just ordered the special veggie roll and the mango avocado roll and both were REALLY good!

I ordered from seamless and the time estimate was right on target too. Will definitely order again. Thank you!

  8. I've only been to A Canaan once and ordered a lunch bento box to go.  The place was bustling, with a full house of customers as well as plenty of to-go orders including seamless and mealpass orders.  My box included a small salad, miso soup, rice, California roll, edamame, seaweed salad, shumai and 4 large shrimp tempura – all for $10!  The value is a steal and I'll be back to try more.
