This market is super sleek and packed with health goodies. Not only do they have fresh produce, but they have those trendy items – and usually lots of brands. Take kale chips or coconut water, for example. Prices do reflect the UES, healthy-minded clientele, but you can find pretty much anything here. I wish I lived closer to something like this.
Well, it sure smells like a health food store.
Granted, I've seen what's sold in this store in many other small and large stores across the city, Whole Foods included, but this seems to be the most wholly inclusive of all of these items under one roof. Notably, I found their items, though organic and usually higher priced at other stores, to be a bit cheaper than I expected! I don't shop organic on the whole, but it's nice to see that it can be made affordable. The $3 can of organic chickpeas anywhere else is only $1.50 here, for example. On occasion, when I do some grocery shopping on my lunch break, I'll stop in here instead of blowing my money at Food Emporium. ($2+ bucks for a red pepper? Oh, I should have known…) It also has things I find harder to find at other grocery stores, such as precooked and canned lentils.
A Matter of Health is a much better bang for your buck, whether you normally eat organic or not.
This is one of our favorite shops! It is big and airy. The selection is terrific and ORGANIC!!
This store has the most amazing soup bar. The chicken and dumpling soup is not to be missed! Nothing better on a cold winters night. The chicken noodle and pea soups are also delicious.
The made to order salads are great. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. They will even squeeze a fresh lemon over your salad. The ingredients are fresh and delicious.
Where this store really shines is their selection of frozen foods and yogurts. They carry all the same brands as Whole Foods. Pricing is also very similar.
They also have a superior selection of Kale Chips. I know that sounds like something not worth mentioning but me and my kids LOVE kale chips and they have every flavor. They also carry the flavored kettle corn in the red bag. Yum!!
You usually don't have to wait too long to check out as there are at least 6 registers to handle the crowds!
Great addition to the neighborhood. The store is HUGE! As is the selection of organic goods. It looks as though they have something for everyone's dietary needs.
Definitely worth a checkout, and the prices are reasonable to really good on items.
We have Whole Foods on 57th street but that is a mile away from this location, this is convenient and great for buying lunch or groceries and chilling by the East River.
This market is a godsend. Great selection, reasonable prices, and a checkout system that actually goes quickly.
Best fresh and frozen food selection, most notably the organic eggs and beverages. The beauty and household item offerings are also excellent. You can find everything you might need here. This place is like an organic/chemical free version of a normal supermarket with nothing left to be desired.
I also find the staff to be incredibly helpful here. It's always nice visiting a business where the staff seem to be happy and treated well by management because the customers definitely notice a difference.
I shop at this location on a fairly regularly basis. I have not tried anything from the store made food counter (salads, smoothies, etc) and I tend to stay away from their produce…I have yet to be impressed by any of the fruit they sell. They have a small fresh bread and rolls section (I love the brioche rolls).
That being said, this health-conscious grocery store has a great selection of items. Their prices are pretty comparable to Whole Foods. Keep an eye out for sale prices listed throughout the store; however, sometimes they insist that you buy 2, buy 4, etc (though I haven't noticed too many of those). They do have their own card: for every 2000 points (each point being one dollar), you earn $20.
I believe they have another location 2 or 3 blocks away, which is a bit weird, but this particular location just looks newer and is super convenient for me. I have yet to be disappointed by any groceries purchased and think it's a great addition to the UES.
I live right around the corner from this grocery store and the only thing I can't find here is deodorant. I rarely grocery shop in bulk and since I"m so close I usually just pop over to get fruits/veggies as needed. The lines go by pretty fast and the selection is great. If you're looking to go organic, check this place out! I'd much rather give these people my money than the Morton Williams 1 block down.
Stopped by today after brunch to check it out and super impressed with the prices and options. For us, this is closer than Whole Foods so its a good alternative if we need something quick. All the produce is organic, which I like and you really do have to inspect carefully before purchasing to make sure you don't receive any rotten or past-due veggies and fruits. Meats and dairy items are a bit overpriced when compared to Whole Foods or even local organic markets, but all in all, there is a wide variety of food items and bath/beauty products. The hubby loves the kombucha station and there is also a fresh juice bar and a hot foods area. We definitely will be making return stops here.
