  1. Walked in here with a large group on a Sunday.  One girl behind the counter and she rocked everyone's order, with lightning speed, was super friendly and served great coffee and tea.

Pastries?….yes, please…..Tried the "la Bomba" which is their custardy donut and (hopefully) convinced her to try to make it into a cake…for my birthday…wheeee!.

It's not a big place and there is no public bathroom, but it kicks Starbucks in the face and respects your wallet.

  2. I believe that this place just had a change in ownership right before Hurricane Sandy.  The decor looks the same, same people working there but I think the head baker or whatever you want to call him may have changed.  The Coffee is average at best, but the apple turnovers are really good.  Perfectly flakey, just the right amount of apple filling, with a slight crunch to them.  Will have to go back during peak hours to check out the full variety of pastries they offer now as the guy at the register indicated that he wasn't sure if the offerings would be changing due to a change in ownership.  I could be wrong but I think the prices increased slightly with the change as well.

Strong wifi connection, relaxed very quiet environment (except for the two Italians that were being pretentious and loud over their sandwiches and espresso).

  3. Stuck on bedrest quite pregnant and struck by a rare craving for sweets I ordered lunch delivery from here with some pastries.     Damn!  I was really impressed.    I've ordered at least six times now.

The gnocchi had texture and depth of flavor –  so many other places serve gnocchi as bland as baby food –  this place is really good.   The fruit tarts and cookies and bombolone are super fresh (like cream filled donut puffs) and yummy.   The iced mocha is intense and powered by good strong espresso and will give you a crazy good caffeine buzz.   I hate watery coffee –  this is serious good fuel that could give you insomnia.    The focaccia is yummy –  at least order some as a side if you don't get a sandwich.    Great chicken soup but it consistently melts the paper tub it comes in.  Eat it fast or put it in a bowl before the container dissolves.

  4. Ok, updating my review now that I've had a chance to try the place out.  Mocha was delicious, Bombolone was super good.  My daughter had some sort of gluten free chocolate cake that was not very good at all.  The atmosphere is cute and the staff was nice enough.

  5. If old, microwaved coffee and stale muffins are your thing, then this is the place for you!
I'm not in the habit of leaving negative reviews, however, I feel that this shop owner needs to hear some for his/her own good!
In a place like Williamsburg where there are artisanal cafes on almost every corner, what are you thinking?? It's not even like its cheap! $6 for a small coffee and muffin that went in the garbage is expensive. I did complain to the girl working that my coffee was cold/old and she said she could "heat" it with the cappuccino maker. She could have brewed a new pot or offered an alternative at that point, but doesn't matter much. I would suffer through caffeine withdrawal before going back.
