I've been a pretty big fan of Go Go/5 5 Curry since I first tried it so when I saw a new Japanese style curry restaurant close to where I worked, I went as soon as possible.
I'm pretty positive that this place is the same as the very popular Korean chain that known for their super spicy curry.
Nice service. Pretty fast. The tables have forks/spoons in a compartment which makes things easier.
The menu is simple. There are some combo plates as well which help with the above average prices.
Anyway, I had the mushroom curry with some tonkatsu (or donkatsu as it's in Koreatown). I got it as level 2 spiciness. It came out in 12 or similar minutes (the place was also packed as it just opened a short while ago.)
The dish came with some rice, a large portion of curry, some fried onions/scallions and a few pieces of fried pork.cutlet. There was a small normal miso soup on the side along with some spiced pickled radish.
The pork cutlet was very good. It didn't have a super large amount of breading. Dipping it in the curry really let go of the rest of the breading which made it taste wonderful.
The mushroom curry was quite spicy even at level 2. I can't exactly imagine level 5 and I can see why they became famous. It was easy for me to eat and I could still taste everything but yeah it was quite hot. The flavors were solid but I prefer a thicker curry such as at Go Go.
The prices were a bit high for the curry but the flavors were solid. If you are looking for a spicier less thick curry with nicer sit down service, I'd recommend this place.
