  1. Due to my recent visit I had to update my review and take a star away. I wanted a delicious steak so I came here alone for lunch and I didn't leave happy. I had to wave the bartender down in a help me motion to get any attention from them. I felt like chopped liver. When I was finally able to order my beverage it wrong and she had to re make it. I ordered a ribeye steak that was so fatty I had to stop eating it. I also asked for it to be cooked med rare but they brought it to me well done. I feel from all of my experiences at Adegas at the bar the bartenders main focus are men that frequent the restaurant instead of every single person that decides to walk through that door. I did ask to speak to the manager not to complain but to ask him about one of pictures that they used for the magazine and he totally forgot to come back and talk to me. Never again!

  2. I'm a fan too. We ended up arriving to this location around 8:30pm on a Saturday evening. We walked in and there was no hostess, but four people came up to us to ensure we were being assisted. We only wait about 15mins for a seat outside (that's what we wanted). We just ordered a drink from the bar and them headed out to the upper level of the outside seating. It was a beautiful night. It was a night everyone wanted to be out, dressed up, laugh, and overall have a great time. I was with my friend, we ordered the T-bone steak, veggies, shrimp and crab mixture (19.99), which was HUGE and largely portioned. We also ordered the white sangria (they have blue, green, red, and white options), which was perfect for the evening (28 bucks for a pitcher). We got about 4 glasses each from the pitcher, which is well worth it, especially if you think you want a few drinks. Example: its about $10 a drink, you want 2, that's $20. It makes sense to get the pitcher if its you and a friend. It was actually flavorful, it wasn't really strong, which I rather have a strong drink, but it was nice for the evening to just chill and enjoy in the humidity.

The service: Our waitress was alert, informative and she got our food out to us hot. She checked on us several times and was great at her job. I can't say ALL the people are out there, but she was one good person to have in the front.I  really liked the manager helping on the floor, he was Portuguese, but spoke really good Spanish. I believe he was a PERFECT person for the job. Everyone was eating, drinking, laughing and hanging out. Great night. I was impressed.

We then decided to head over to the night club. WOW this places was happening for as early as it was. People were drinking and hanging out. I would defiantly come here to hang out and enjoy myself. We didn't even have to pay cover. It was RIGHT before 11:00pm. I guess it could've been more packed, but I think it was great. The bartenders served us two rum chata and fire bomb shots and they were really delicious. First time. I loved that when I stood at the bar I always got service.

    Overall I am a fan.

  3. Large Group of old friends for dinner this past evening and the ownership here was kind enough to set up us in the back room up the steps for privacy of our gathering. This is my first time here and nice Patio Seating on Ferry street not there is much to see but still nice to have that option. Long bar on one side as you enter then a long narrow dining area leading to the main dining rooms in the back…. Esthetically speaking laid our nicely with a classy decor and setup.

We were on a preset menu with multiple appetizers and entrees so I'll review them all.  First off service was top notch all night… as multiple servers handled our orders.

Garlic Bread with Olives and chopped tomato in Balsamic vinegar nice opener

Fried Calamari was by far the weakest of the appetizers as it was a little fishy and sauce left something to be desired.  This was the only complaint we had food wise.

Chicken wrapped in Bacon in brown sauce with minced garlic was delicious.

Equal to the task of shrimp with Garlic sauce as this was dead on the Money.

Claims in a light garlic broth were fresh, clean and spot on.

Flash flamed Chorizo was not to spicy, but tasty and very good.

For Entrees – a Outstanding Sliced filet with portuguese special sauce with boiled potatoes and vegetables was really nice.

A Paella of Lobster yellow rice and muscles and clams was good but lobster was slightly over cooked but still fresh.

White Sangria was ok while the Red was much better.

Flan and cheesecake deserts were off the charts while coffee was hot and fresh.

All and all a really nice presentation for a large group of guys, with great service and wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend when selecting your dining options down neck in Newark.

  4. Service: [ 5 star ] The manager was gracious, courteous, and very accommodating. The servers were attentive and playful.

Food: [4 star ] We ordered the seafood party for 3 people for $90. Sounds a bit exorbitant however it really could have fed 6 or more. The platter came with an array of generous seafood: lobsters, huge grab legs, scallops, prawns, scallops, shrimps, and stuffed mushrooms in a tomato based sauce on a bed of lettuce. The sauce was light, tasty with a little spice. For appetizer, we had the chorizo and shrimp in garlic sauce. That was amazing. The sangria was $40 and yummy and wasn't watered down.

Ambience: [ 4 start ] The place was quaint, cozy, and romantic- a little on the small side however that didn't bother me much. The neat part about this place is that it is connected to a bar and a lounge if you are not in the mood to dine. The bar is extremely narrow. The lounge is spacious and there's music.

  5. This review is strictly for the bar during lunch hours.

I used to frequent this place for lunch when I worked in Newark. It is located on busy Ferry Street, so parking can be a little difficult. THERE IS A PARKING GARAGE for this place on Madison Street between Lafayette and Ferry. They usually give you a ticket to stamp at the bar and I usually tip the guy at the garage a couple bucks. The bar is modern and has about 5 TVs. It has a slightly more upscale feel than most bars in the Ironbound and it is also very long and narrow. So, if you don't see a seat near the entrance, keep walking. Also, most if not all of the bartenders are younger women, so it brings in a predominantly male crowd. I think I've only seen one woman at the bar ever (again I'm talking about lunch time).

I think the food is slightly above average (maybe 3.5?). I usually get a chicken or pork sandwich. The meat is pounded very thin and is simply seasoned with salt and pepper. If you are looking to order the same, make sure you tell them everything that you want on the sandwich. There isn't a default like lettuce, tomato and onion. I also enjoy the BBQ chicken which is a whole rotisserie chicken that is very crispy and is seasoned very well. You can also choose any side with your meals such as yellow rice, fries or a salad. My coworkers have order more extravagant meals at the bar and each meal had a good presentation and I was told that the meals were tasty.

If you are looking for a bar to hit during the work week to get food and drinks, try this place with your coworkers.

  6. What a beautiful place this is, has beautiful tables, couches a fireplace and conveniently attached to its neighboring lounge. That's it.. I'm done that's all I had to say that was nice about this place… :-/ pretty sad

I arrived at 7:00pm New years eve with a party of 4, place was pretty empty with tons of tables available, yet we got such a headache with our reservations about how packed they are and absolutely COULD'NT squeeze us in..that was all Bull!! The servers were sooo rude, never smiled and kept rushing us to order. So we finally ordered and my my were we all disappointed, just see the pics below.

Pernas de Carangueijo do Alaska Grelhadas (King crab legs) – The shells were so soft that I couldn't even break in for the meat, if they gave me a scissor that would've been helpful. It was just overcooked and DRY..really? how can you mess something up that's so amazing and easy to cook?
Bife da Saia na Brasa (Skirt Steak)- Lacked in flavor, fat was still on the plate which was really disgusting and unappetizing.
Calamari- was hard rubber nothing that you bit into. Definitely the worst calamari I have ever had! Clearly they need to learn how to cook seafood.
Chistorra à Adega- Spanish sausage, shrimp and mushrooms in brown sauce was OK, nothing to say here either, just bland.
Spanish style potatoes, saffron rice and vegetables were served with some entries- please keep it, it was a disaster!!
Tres leches and creme brulee were both decent so I give them that.

I would never come back here for food, no one from my party enjoyed there meals..I hope they learn how to make seafood and present the food more elegantly..

  7. Five of us went here for lunch. In comparison to other Brazilian/Portuguese/Spanish restaurants in the Ironbound, this place stands out above its competition. My co-worker in charge of organizing this annual luncheon for years had been sending us to Iberia down the street. I'm glad I convinced him to break tradition and go here instead.

The food and service were excellent and the ambiance is much nicer and more modern than other spots in the Ironbound.

My one co-worker and I got the mixed meat platter (churrasco) which was incredibly flavorful, filling and had a great variety of meat. Pork chop. Lamb chop. Sirloin. Sausage. Bacon. And all cooked to a perfect temperature. Everyone else was happy with their meals, notably the garlic chicken, and the garlic bread and olive and diced tomato accompaniments were a nice touch.

The sangria was also delicious and packed quite the punch.

For $175 for 5 people, we all left very content. My only critique would be that my rice and beans could have used a little more salt.

After lunch, we stopped at the bar, which was packed with men at 3:00 on a Tuesday, which I'm sure has nothing to do with the attractiveness of the bartenders.

  8. This is a review of the bar only.

The bar has a separate door. We were here on a Friday night about 10ish.

Packed!  And it's extremely narrow. Made it challenging to find a spot for 4.
Found one near the bathroom. But the narrowness provides for one person to be sitting and one person behind and so basically every time someone needed the 1 person stall it was a jostling dance.

Had the cheesecake at the bar and a couple drinks. Drinks were good. Nice pour of vodka and beers were cold.

Bartenders were very nice. Atmosphere very nice. But narrowness makes drinking here uncomfortable.

The smelly Brazilian who sat next to us at the bar was also an added bonus. Dude take a shower after work if you want to pick somebody up. Stop hitting on my girls. You stink.
