Great new, gourmet grocery store in the 'hood. Everything is laid out in a pretty way, and the produce looks great. I'd say getting the deals on produce is one of the only ways to make the produce affordable, though.
I'm enamored by their cheese selection. They also have a ton of prepared food.
Check out area is definitely too tight, unfortunately. I feel like this space needs to be streamlined, or something.
Stopped in on my way to doctor's office. Split pea soup- watery and acidic. Salmon sashimi- looked good but overpriced, funky smell, flavorless. Live n learn.
I live nearby and every time I walk by, I just have to get in. YOU must get in. They have very high quality food, super fresh veggies, meats, and fish. They make the mozzarella in front of you in the cheese corner, they prepare a lot of other food in front of you.
It's a cute store, the staff is nice, the prices varies, but they always have daily specials, and the atmosphere is somewhat like walking in your grandmas kitchen.
They have the BEST SAMPLES in the city. For real, you walk in, they often have someone greeting you with something, pass the veggie and fruit stand, you have either a cup of fish or meat at the corner, down the row you'll have a sushi sampler, turn right, try some cheese, keep walking down the aisle, you'll find cold cuts, olives, humus, ravioli, salmon toast, and by the sweet ladies, desert cups. Yes.
SAMPLE TEMPLE!
And if you feel lazy to cook supper, the food that isnt sampled is awesome too and decently priced!
I'm not sure how I missed this place for so many years, but it's a great underrated supermarket as well as a fantastic lunch spot. They have so many options throughout the store and it looks like everything is made fresh. It's a great alternative to the Whole Foods in Union Square which is always crowded during lunch time and super expensive/overrated. I got a sandwich from the deli (Louie B with proscuitto) and it was delicious! Very quick turnaround and I would totally return to try other things, such as sushi or the hot bar.
Not as pricey as Citarella around the way, but still far more intimate than the whole foods nearby as well. They have a great selection of pre-made lunch sandwiches, wraps, and salads for very reasonable prices. Their meat and seafood counters both look amazing as well. They have a weird "bread nook" with lots of fresh made breads, but you'll have to find it. I haven't tried anything from the pastry section but it looks great too. The staff are always really nice and helpful, something you don't always get at Citarella or Whole Foods. They just recently opened near my work place and we've been coming consistently- all that I wrote has remained consistent. If you're tired of the prices at Citarella or the coldness of WF try Agata and Valentina.
Finally! One of my fave uptown stores opened downtown. They are still figuring things out- no matter. Samples galore, lunch boxes at $6.99 with cooked food. I really love so much about this store- they have housemade doughnuts……..good fresh pasta, of course.
Only gripe is it is smaller and oddly configured, but oh well- happy A&V is here.
Got an Italian Tuna Salad Sandwich for 5.50 or something, was tuna fish, capers, tomato, onions, some other things on bread. Also a boylan's soda for 1.70 or 1.90.
For the area, I gladly take these prices, gladly.
Can't believe I didn't notice this place before. From the outside it looks as big as a large bathroom, but if you actually walk inside the place is huge! So many great finds in here and honestly not expensive at all, especially considering NYC. They have a little area where you can sit; it's never crowded so you are guaranteed seating, and it is actually quite nice, with wooden tables. They have everything an italian deli would ever have and more, because there are free cheese samples! The bread and bakery area is cute too, with extremely cheap fruit tarts and sometimes free cookie samples, yay! I love coming here for a quick snack or even just for studying.
