“My daughter was very happy with her miso soup and salmon sashimi.”

“I'm still not sure what a "cheery aioli is" or even whether it mightn't be one of those typical Asian menu misspellings, but the roll was delicious and did indeed make me cheery.”

  1. I don't think I even realized how much food we ate here until I started uploading all of the photos. Ha. After the World Cup finals and way too many drinks, Stephy and I stumbled into this place on the way back to trying to find that oh so elusive g train. We were starving and very tipsy. The outdoor garden area was lovely and the twinkly lights created a great ambiance. However, there was nothing special to write home about the food. The sushi wasn't the freshest. Which is probably the biggest no no for me. The apps we ordered were lackluster. Highlight for sure was ordering the fried ice cream, which wasn't my idea to begin with. But great idea.

Shumai ($5.50) & Gyoza ($5.50) – Both small and unimpressive dumpling apps but I usually expect that from most sushi restaurants. Not enough filling and not very satisfying. I finally figured out the third app we ordered – Crispy Soft Shell Crab in a sweet sake chili sauce ($8.50) – Definitely the best of the three and more decadent with both a coconut sweet and savory spicy crunch.

For sushi I ended up getting a Philadelphia, Spicy Tuna, and an avocado roll and was fairly disappointed. The fish didn't stand out and it tasted 'old'. There's no other way to explain it. I'm usually not picky about fresh fish in sushi either. The spicy tuna roll wasn't spicy either as my friend that can't eat anything spicier than Cholula sauce exclaimed that it was pretty lame. Steph ended up ordering the Chicken Katsu with a side of miso soup. ($12) It wasn't anything outstanding but decent. She was disappointed because it didn't mention having vegetables in the dish and I'm pretty sure she's allergic. (Joke) Anyway, the night was redeemed with the sake and the fried ice cream ($5).  Beautiful presentation with a little twirly cookie nestled on top and it tasted amazing. However, I think this place is a little bit over-priced for what it is and definitely needs to amp up their sushi products. Also, there are much better foody options in Wburg for this place to contend with.

  2. Delicious! Very fresh, very good sushi at very reasonable prices. My boyfriend had the $11 for 3 rolls lunch special. I had a spicy tuna hand roll, two pieces of salmon sushi, and one piece of surf clam. Turns out I do not like surf clam (I couldn't remember when I ordered it) – but for what it's worth it was plenty fresh, just not my thing. I'm shocked to hear the food poisoning reviews below, because we both left with very happy stomachs.

The service was very friendly, though I will say it took a little while to get our food. Still, Ako gets 4 stars for having everything you could ask for from a good sushi place, including "exotic" specials like live sea scallop and urchin. We were not feeling adventurous and so we declined to try – but I liked that the option was there!

The decor was also super cute. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the north Williamsburg area.

  3. The food is pretty average. Another Japanese restaurant run by Chinese people, so it isn't that authentic. My friend ordered a chicken yakiudon, he got a vegetable one instead. They changed it though, so that's nice of them. I got a yellow tail tartar it's tragically small. Sushi should be served cold but my rainbow roll is warm. Pretty nice ambience though, could pass for people who aren't picky.

  4. So even though I am a Jersey girl, I am currently spending 5 days a week in the BK.  And this is the closest and fastest sushi spot to my current home away from home.  $8 for 2 rolls and $11 for three roll lunch special.  This includes crunchy rolls but not shrimp tempura rolls.  BUT you do get both soup and salad (if that's your thing).

Quick delivery, consistently good quality sushi.  This is a go to!

  5. AMAZING SUSHI! incredibly fresh!

Stumbled across this restaurant for a lunch special. Three rolls, $12. Lunch special comes with a soup and salad (love that).

Staff was hospitable, down to earth, kind.

Restroom was clean, patio is gorgeous.

Doesn't smell like fish in here. Great sign.

  6. Perfectly serviceable sushi joint, located conveniently on Bedford Ave. We found it almost empty on a Saturday afternoon- I guess hipsters prefer overpriced eggs to sushi during brunch hours.

Prices are really reasonable for the location, and there's a cute patio in the back, perfect for enjoying the nice weather. Get one of the lunch specials if you can- we had a 3 rolls and miso soup/salad combo for $11. The salmon and mango roll was basic but really refreshing.

  7. I was very very pleased with this place. They have far more innovative Japanese food than most sushi places in the city. It all looked good and it was really hard to pick what to eat off the menu.

You have to get the beef negimaki appetizer, which is basically beef and scallions rolled up like they're sushi rolls with delicious sauce on top. So so good.

I also got the sashimi ume and it was very good. There were 3 sashimi pieces each for ~7 types of fish. It was a very good selection. I can say that the salmon was by far the best so I would recommend getting just salmon sashimi as well.

Service was very attentive and quick. There is a backyard area with a cute patio, and I would recommend eating out there if it's warm out.

I will definitely be back to try more items on this menu!

  8. I had a solid meal here.

Zach S said it right when he said "Better than Samurai however not as good as Bozu". But really, what is as good as bozu?? The portions and prices here are good when the sushi craving hits you but you don't want to go balls to wall crazy.

I ended up having a beer, a sm hot sake, two orders of squid sashimi, tako, salmon roe (they were out of uni), soup and a few other sashimi items. They were all very good.

I had the wasabi roll with salman, tuna and wasabi tobiko and it was really nice. I was really pleasantly surprised with this place. I imagine I hit it at a good, fresh moment. It is, so far, my favorite mid range sushi place around Williamsburg.
