Really expensive but the food was very good. I don't recommend ordering anything besides the traditional mofongo which comes out to $20 or so. It is plenty of food for two.
Service was fine albeit a little slow but honestly you come here for the mofongo.
I am really shocked with all the negative reviews on this restaurant. My friend and I went with our groupon on a Saturday evening and were treated very well by staff. We were in the restaurant part since I am aware they have a buffet style next door. The restaurant was clean and nothing fancy. It looks like a lot of locals visit the spot and were having a great time. There was a large group there celebrating a birthday and our waiter was still very attentive and friendly.
I am not dominican but I have eaten enough food to determine what's good and whats not and we werent disappointed with the food here at all. I ordered the beef mofongo and it was delicious. It was a big portion and I took some home because I was semifull from our appetizer of Picaderita con Tostone which was little bites of tostones in small pieces with beef. We enjoyed the little complimentary pina colada which was DELICIOUS and we were mad that we had already ordered our drinks because we wouldve ordered the pina colada. I will definitely return and you should check it out.
I came here after partying at mamajuanas. The place was packed and it was a club/restaurant. Everyone was buying dominican food. The great thing is that it is 24/7 so whenever you are hungry thats your spot. We ordered two picadas and they were very good! Only issue with this place was that it was a long wait and they seemed understaffed.
This place is in a great location to get people just walking by, however we didnt have place-mats, the tables had burn spots from cigarettes. It was not packed but service took a really long time. Food was good, but all the other items really weighed on me. With a small amount of upgrade, this place could do great.
*GROUPON DEAL ALERT*
1 app(up to $11) – 2 entrées(up $22 each) – 2 drinks(up $10 each) FOR $29.
I had the crab mofongo(I wish it was mixed in) but it came in a separate bowl. However, it was very good. The crab was real crab, not imitation meat. Flavors were there. The Mofongo had little flavor not garlicky and not buttery. Just smashed platanos BUT nevertheless good.
The seats were dirty… the floors weren't fully clean, it's a LITTLE rough on the inside. After all, it is a club and this restaurant is open 24/7. So I understand it would take a lot more effort to keep things in tip top shape BUT it's no excuse.
HAPPILY it wasn't loud inside, but there was only 1 server working (maybe other on break??? we saw her later helping another party of 4.)
Also had a sangria, it was SPOT ON! (strong) *thumbs up* added some Snapple Apple to it, and made a whole new drink.
Our waiter Richie was awwwwsome. He was pleasant, kind, and welcoming. He even offered suggestions as waiters should. Our appetizer came with our entrées and he apologized(not an issue with me).. Chef made a mistake so he offered dessert on the house. "tres leches" cake and it was a great way to end the meal.
Since they're open every hour of the day, I will be back on a late night for takeout.
Very expensive.
Salty-beyond-recognition food.
Dried lump of mushed up plantains with "pork" (so they say…).
Flavorless brown water for dipping your dried lump of whatthehellisit and salty, dry, over-cooked pork skin.
What's not to love?
This is absolutely the worst food I've had in Inwood…maybe the entire city. And I've eaten at Guy's American Kitchen.
No thank you.
These people have no clue about service. They don't even bring you water. You have to ask for water and they bring you bottled water and try to charge you for that. BOTTLED WATER? Am I in a bodega or a restaurant? I shouldn't have to ask for water, I shouldn't have to pay for water. Aside from the water issue the service just sucked in general. More than once I tried to get our servers attention with no success. It felt like she was ignoring us
The food was below average, I had baked chicken with rice and Beans, parts of the chicken were cold and the rice was more sticky than it should be. The food was lackluster.
This place just has no redeeming value. Especially considering every other storefront on this block is a Spanish restaurant. The only thing they have going for them is a prime corner location on dyckman. That's probably the only reason they are still open.
This place used to he great, now it's a shit show.
No more buffet as the waitress told us.
Items on the menu you can't order
The bread that they put on the table we had to pick it up since nobody got us any. 35 minutes later they got us a round.
0 water even when we asked
Tables are wobbly and we had to put stuff on them to fix it.
Asked for water and they got bottle water nut never ever mentioned until they came with it.
We ran out of bread by now and the water just came (minute 38) ps bread should not je reheated on the microwave it gets elastic and hard.
A fly around the food..
Now to the food:
THE food that needs to be cooked on the spot aka not the one that's already on the buffet style area ( I know there is no more buffet according to the waitress ) that's good.
Get the pricey mofongos and always ask for chicharron or pork inside as that's how they are supposed to be made.
I got the chivo mofongo and all they do is mash the plantains and give u a side of goat?. I was wtf it should be inside of the plantains.
The fried stuff was also good.
Do not get the burgers.
The fish was also decent tilapia style fish.
The service got better as a guy came to help the girl that was clueless and I think she was not trained well on how to treat customers.
Spent 490 dollars for good food and shit service.
Last time mofongo house, last time.
