Alexandra was a great resteraunt! After searching for a genuinely good resteraunt in town we stumbled upon it. The house salad was delicious and the burger was phenominal. I truly rec
omend this place as a good location for eating and socializing.
I stumbled upon this place today. Upon first glance, this was my type of place: small, intimate, with good ambiance and character. I really wanted to like this place; however, Alexandra fell short in two major categories – service and overall food quality.
To start, my girlfriend and I ordered the calamari. The calamari was actually pretty good and the standout dish of the night. For entrees, I ordered the chicken dish and she ordered the salmon. The chicken was only okay, nothing too special. If you are paying $24 bucks for a piece of freaking chicken, make the dish standout somehow and not taste like something you can get elsewhere. The salmon was also okay, but the mashed potatoes that accompanied the salmon were actually not bad.
The service was awful. The waitress was very rude and kept asking to order. She looked like she was going to have a nervous breakdown when we didn't order fast enough. We just prefer to order slow, drink some wine, and enjoy the meal. After both of our wine glasses were finished, it took her 30 minutes to get us another glass. She never replenished the water either.
Eh.
2 for the food, 3 for the ambiance… So to be clear: a 2 means "meh, I've had better", not "this the worst place ever." It's a cute neighborhood spot for a drink or a date but sadly the food is not that exciting. My caesar salad was subpar and then I tried the fried chicken special which sounded promising and started out promising (crispy, seasoned batter)… but it just made me sad and depressed by the end of dinner. All I could think about was how much better the chicken is at Blue Ribbon or Blue Smoke. I did however enjoy the mashed potatoes and there was a delightful warm brownie (more like a moist chocolate cake) with hazelnut gelato at the end.
BF notes: he rather liked his calamari and decided that the striped bass special was "good" – I beg to differ. I'll call it "ok."
Beautiful old-style West Village venue with excellent brunch. The French toast was delicious and the coffee was nice and strong, French-style. The morning we were there the owner himself waited on us. Definitely a neighborhood find and a place where you can be a regular.
I am bucking the trend and going for 4 stars here.
I booked this very small little restaurant on Open Table because I hadn't read any reviews – and I'm glad I didn't. It was clean (It's hygiene rating is now an A), cute and the service was absolutely delightful.
We were a table of 6 for brunch. I had the special omelette with ham and peppers, which was divine – they must strain the eggs or something to get the omelette so smooth. The coffee was really nice and everyone's meals (baked eggs/ special omelette/poached eggs and polenta) were just scrummy.
I wish I had had room for dessert, (they look very tasty) but I was full!
Went to this place on a whim while leaving work late evening on a Wednesday. Intimate looking bar with barely anyone inside and even live jazz for later in the night. Though prices were steep, it offered a relaxing setting to get out of the cold.
Immediately got a seat and asked for a wine list – they didn't have one (just listed it off) so we settled on a Spanish Red ($11 a glass). Wine was a little thin and had an odd taste, but figured it'd go fine with the Cheese Plate we ordered ($18). Three types of cheese served with a few slivers of apple, a tablespoon of jam, and a toasted piece of white bread. Though the plate looked pretty, I was hoping that for the price there would be more/better bread, more jam, and possible some nuts or greens. Cheese itself had good variety and went well with the jam that was provided.
Service here is attentive – given that we were one of two tables here. Live Jazz is a plus as well, even if it got a bit loud at times. I would say I wouldn't come back unless they have a solid happy hour.
