I came here with my boyfriend on a Monday night. It was quiet; there were only a few people dining. The waiter seated us immediately and served us water, warm pita bread and hummus. He took our orders and we waited about 15 mins for our entrees.
The hummus did not taste like the hummus I am used to eating. The consistency was thinner than most. I ordered the mousaka with lemon potatoes and grilled asparagus. The Mousaka had a mint taste to it, which I was not fond of the flavor. The portion was on the smaller side. The potatoes were good, but not as lemony as I hoped for. My boyfriend ordered the shieftalia, which I liked. It was ground pork, spices and pieces of onions rolled into a sausage. It was served with rice, which I found to be bland and mushy.
Our waiter was attentive and nice. He kept filling our glasses with water. He even brought us free desserts!
Best gyro I've had so far… I have yet to try more in Astoria but so far this one wins… in life (SO FAR). Hopefully I find an even better one someday but if I die having this be the last gyro I ever tasted, I'd be satisfied. That's gotta count for something.
Aliada is just ok. We came with friends. The service was meh, the food was meh.
The octopus is incredibly over priced for how much food they give you.
It's just a basic Greek restaurant. I had a salad with chicken, tasty but mostly the same everywhere.
The hummus was oddly watery, just keep an eye out there.
The pita did stand out.
Pretty good crab cake. One order comes with 4 small crab cakes & I think it is a chipotle mayo.
Delivery was behind schedule but I guess they didn't start delivering until 30 mins after my order was received via Seamless. A call would've been nice but whatever.
Really fresh and delicious Mediterranean food. I've ordered a salad from here on Seamless before and it was incredible.
Came here for lunch on Saturday and the restaurant was pretty quiet. I made a reservation on Opentable, but it wasn't necessary.. although I did want the points for it.
They start you off with some pita bread and a small taste of hummus. Pretty good. I had the grilled calamari & shrimp combo with asparagus and it's also served with a rice pilaf.
Everything was grilled perfectly. Add a squeeze of lemon and the meal was complete. Service was attentive and everyone was very friendly.
Amazing Greek food! Tons of traditional stuff, but also some more exotic for those looking to try something new. I had the Pulled Lamb Sandwich which was cheap ($12) and also a pretty great portion. The sandwich was delicious and the fries were some of the best I ever had. My girlfriend got the Falafel Sandwich ($8) and she loved that as well. I sneaked a bite and approve of it as well.
The beer selections was pretty small but they were only $5, not bad and no certain hours required. The wine list was very extensive and of course specialized in greek wines. I didn't try them but they were reasonably priced by the glass as well.
Don't let the white table clothes fool you, this place isn't an expensive or fancy place. I think it would make a great date and they even gave us dessert on the house. We are definitely going back!
I lived in Astoria and right next to this place for 5 years and why I didn't try it till after I moved away is beyond me, but here we are.
So, we got here at about 630pm on a Sat. and it was pretty full but not packed. We were able to be seated right away. Our waiter took our order shortly after and brought over my wine glass filled to the top..YAY! I know the rule is to stop at the curve of the glass but I was appreciative of the generous pour.
Anyhow, we ordered the hummus to start and I literally killed it entirely on my own. 🙂 It wasn't as thick as I normally expect hummus to be but very tasty nonetheless. For our entrée, I had the Chicken Skewers with Greek strained yogurt and he had the Fillet of Salmon with homemade balsamic vinaigrette, we both opted for Asparagus as our side. Both meals were very fresh and delicious.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience and will be back.
Astoria is full of Greek restaurants, so if you're craving the cuisine of the motherland on a given evening, you have your pick of places. Aliada has something that other traditional Greek spots do not – American style customer service! It's the chupacabra of Greek eateries; serving what grandma, nona and mana-giagia would make at home, but without the attitude or stream of curse words shouted over you.
The branzino fish our little group ordered was caught and shipped the day before from Greece. In fact, all their seafood is. Grilled octopus, halloumi, kopanisti (a spicy red pepper feta dip) and a traditional salad with graviera cheese shredded atop rounded out our little dinner. Everything we needed came just as soon as we asked for it and the staff checked in the appropriate amount giving us the time to enjoy every last bite and our conversation. After the branzino was sucked clean, we shared shots of a tsipouro/grenadine mixture with our server and were treated to frappes just the way we liked them.
Sit outside where the tables are spaced out from each other and you get the feeling that you're on your own private island. Perfect summer evening dining!
