Only cash, no credit cards or apple pay here, and no table service. Order to go or sit on one of the stools. Tried their doubles, they aren't greasy like other places, which is nice but they could've used more filling. I also ordered the oxtail and bussup shut (paratha). The oxtail, which was mostly gravy and bone, comes in a circular aluminum tray with a flimsy plastic cover, needless to say by the time I got home most of the gravy leaked out and was soaking through the paper bag and pooling at the bottom of the plastic bag! That left me with a few small pieces of meat to go with my giant bussup shut. The meat is sparse but tasty enough but they really need to be more generous with the meat and start using plastic containers. The total came out to $11. There's only one other west Indian place nearby, Feroza's. Slim pickings.
Ok in fairness to this establishment I only had 1 double which I didn't like and it could be because it was the last one and I was greedy and just took it. They really should've threw it out since it didn't taste fresh or good. The place seems pretty popular with "regulars." I will return to try something else but my first experience wasnt that great.
It's been a few months since I last visited Ali's Roti Shop but I will definitely be finding myself back here very soon. I used to live much closer, but I now live quite a few subway stops & a bus ride away so it's much harder to get here whenever I'm craving roti, but I refuse to go anywhere else. I adore the doubles, and the roti is ALWAYS good. I've tried the vegetable, channa, and chicken rotis and they were all very satisfying. They also have lots of options and I'm excited to go back and try something new. If you want huge portions of authentic Trinidadian food, definitely stop by Ali's. Once the weather warms up I'll definitely be making regular trips to get my roti!
Great neighborhood caribbean spot for your roti cravings. They're located about the fifteen minutes from me so, I have no problems picking up some curry and roti when I get the itch.
I've only ever purchased their dahl roti, doubles and goat curry, all of which were great. It's refreshing and nostalgic to get a taste of home whenever I miss my mother's cooking
