Great stop on our way back from the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. What a wonderful find just north of Cross-Bay bridge. Amazing list of sammies, burgers, breakfast, lunch. Super-tasty coffees (caf and decaf), bagels. Loads of snackies to load up on if you like. Smiling and helpful staff. It's a winner!
Rock N Roll Bagels probably deserves all five stars, but I need to show restraint because I've had only one of their sandwiches.
It was a great sandwich.
We stopped on the way to JFK. I snagged a poppy seed bagel with fresh lox and cream cheese. This sandwich was cut in half, wrapped and bagged — ready to go on my flight. The stop at Rock N Roll set me back $8.50.
Just before we pushed back from the gate, I was beckoned by a flight attendant and sent to the front cabin. Upgrade! I was pampered with a "fresh breakfast" that was catered by an operation many rungs below Rock N Roll. But the breakfast was free, and it wasn't awful. The end result was that the bagel sat in my backpack — for many hours.
I finally got to eat my bagel sandwich when lunch rolled around. On the left coast. Many hours after it was made by Rock N Roll. But wow, it was DELICIOUS! It was perfect. I want more!
I'll definitely stop in again. Highly recommended.
Last stop before going over the toll bridge and get to Rockaway beach. Nice little outside seating to enjoy a bagel or whatever you get. This place has plenty of different bagels to order from. The hamburgers are pretty good too. The service is great and workers here are very friendly. This is a great place to get some lunch before going to the beach.
Just north of the Cross Bay Bridge, you'd think with that location and its dingy outward appearance, this is no place for a meal. Get past that, and you'll find surprisingly large, tasty sandwiches and bagels for surprisingly low prices. There are daily soup specials and even reasonably priced beverages. This isn't just a breakfast bagel stop – they serve lunch. I had a pastrami sandwich on a hero roll, and it was very filling and good pastrami (very hard to find normally, but I was in NYC, so I rolled the dice). In this case, the food would merit 5 stars, but the surroundings bring it down. There aren't enough tables inside, and we ended up smooshed in a corner, having to constantly shift to let people in and out of the bathroom. The deli is as much convenience store as restaurant, a one-stop shop for locals. You can make it yours as well.
