  1. Most New York bodegas follow a certain template. They stock the same inventory, use the same florescent lighting and offer the same impersonal service. But, for the most part, these cookie cutter stores are perfect for quick and forgettable purchases.

Unfortunately, when you frequent a certain bodega that's within proximity of your apartment, you kind of expect a little better service. It wasn't until I moved to Queens that I was able to get this and more.

All Season is run by Alex, who owns a few other convenient stores in Astoria. He's always stocked with every flavor of Arizona and holds an excellent brew selection. The deli is good, the fruits are fresh and his coffee isn't half bad. He has hooked us up with free samplings of soup, as well as ordered different kinds of Four Loko when I complained about the lemonade flavor. He'll spot you if you're a buck short and he's always up for a quick chat. He's one of two people working in the store, so you can't avoid him.

My advice: Avoid the riffraff at the bodega across the street and visit Alex instead. He runs a tight ship with fair prices.
