Am & Al Deli

“I had the New Yonker both times (others refer to it as the New Yorker, but it's actually Yonker).”

“You can barely close the sandwich, and if you do finish in one sitting, you'll be unable to accomplish anything for the next hour.”

“When you walk in it looks like your typical outer borough bodega but this is a little gem for some great priced take-out food.”

  1. A solid nondescript deli on 8th Ave, where you can get sandwiches made to order (and some ready made), drinks, and snacks. I would come here for the grill; their breakfast sandwiches taste good – eggs cooked well. I've also had the chicken salad sandwich, which had a good ratio of mayo, chicken, and tomatoes, and lettuce, and it was an adequate size. Considering how much sandwiches at chains in the area will cost you, this is a more affordable way to go. You'll probably pay $4-8 for sandwiches, depending on what you order.

  2. I'm inclined to agree with all of the other positive reviews below.  This place couldn't be more random.  I wouldn't ever think to walk in.  I was sceptical of the 4.5 star rating on Yelp, but I'm glad a buddy and I went for it.

I had the Bon Appetit sandwich (chicken salad, muenster, lettuce, tomato, and brown mustard), and it was surprisingly flavorful.  Great consistency with the chicken.  The flavors all worked together beautifully.  Not gourmet by any means, but a solid, classic approach to chicken salad.

Best part?  It was enormous and $5.95.  Definitely going back.

  3. I was looking for a good spot for a regular ham & cheese sandwich that didn't use fancy NYC breads.  Reviews were on fire for this place so I gave it a shot and I wasn't disappointed.

When I arrived the first thing I looked for was the cold cut slicer behind the deli, lo and behold there it was in all its glory.  Now I knew for certain they sliced their meat fresh and that's exactly what they did when I placed my order.  My sandwich wasn't as loaded with ham as I would have liked but the sandwich was really good and for the price I got a nice sandwich, snack of chips and even a can of soda.  I'm definitely coming back to this spot.
