I enjoyed this place but without a reservation we got stuffed into the corner. I guess we should have anticipated that we would need a reservation in this location.
The food was good, nothing especially special about it. It was reasonably priced and the service was attentive.
One of our favorites when we visit NYC. It is more of a local's place than a tourist trap. Nice people, fair prices and good food. A good combo in an area full of high priced tourist traps.
We have been going here for years and look forward to our next visit!
Came here with friend's reservations who had been here years before and wanted to give it another go.
4/5 for the food: Staff is well versed on the menu. We had a little of everything: Traditional, authentic Italian cooking Carpaccio and Chicken Amarone are must haves! Shrimp were well sized and fresh. Chicken Parm was a standard dish.
3/5 Drinks: A little over-priced. Sstaff was not well versed on the selection of spirits. The bartender did not seem seasoned as he messed up our drink order and the waiter had to retake our entire order per the bartender's request so he could start from scratch (typical martini and mixed drinks nothing extravagant maybe it was an off night?).
4/5 Atmosphere: Staff is very accommodating and courteous. Quaint Italian decor, white table cloths and cloth napkins. Table was a little small for our party of 4, but the typical small New York restaurant. One single sized restroom for each sex.
Definitely would recommend for an Italian restaurant in the city.
Amarone is by far my favorite italian restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. My concierge had recommended this place to me and thought the food was "just wonderful". I took his advice and tried it one night by ordering in.
A few weeks turned into months of me ordering in from them. I typically don't cook at home – I totally should but then you must remember all New Yorkers just use their kitchens to place their take-outs onto plates anyway – and I mostly go out to restaurants. My ordering in was my first impression of them and I was quite impressed! The majority of the time the delivery men wore their restaurant attire and looked fairly buttoned up compared to the stained white ensemble most sweaty delivery guys wear. The bag was neatly packaged, including very fresh 'restaurant' bread, and the meals looked like they were prepared very carefully. It's not often when someone requests a delivery that they can almost feel like they're at the restaurant without physically being there.
Then one day, I decided to go out for my birthday. It was extremely low key since I wanted to have a quiet celebration with just my boyfriend. I was craving italian and leaving the neighborhood just didn't appeal to me so I decided to go into Amarone for the first time. I had to look around for someone and a minute later a girl greeted us and took us to a table. Our Mexican waiter came over and spoke in a fairly good Italian accent – God, I love New York – and offered the specials. Shortly after, our bread and butter/olive oil came and we were asked what we wanted to drink, aside from tap, still or sparkling water. I ordered a glass of sparkling wine and the boy ordered a jack and coke. Eventually, we got penne pomodoro and pasta bolognese. Ugh, we're so basic but honestly these basic dishes tasting absolutely amazing.
After my birthday, I came back a few months later with my friend and he and I had the greatest time. No one was sitting outside so we had our choice of table. We even changed out minds as the bread was coming out with our drinks and the servers moved us over with no problem. We shared the calamari as an appetizer and for mains my friend had the pasta special (black fettucine with fruit of the sea) and I had a pear salad (arugula, lemon dressing and pears). The pear salad was flavorful and don't like the name or description fool you. This can actually leave you pretty satisfied and have room for dessert! My friend was adamant we share something – he's my dessert buddy – so we had a fabulous apple tart with gelato. The presentation for this, along with our mains, was very nice and actually beautiful! We devoured it almost instantly. I must say for both dining services, this restaurant is very good! The waiters are so attentive and informative. They strike me as people who truly cared about their customers comfort and satisfaction.
I must admit that I read a few reviews and honestly felt shocked there were some one stars creeping around this Yelp page. I do think this is out of character for this restaurant but if this really is an issue they should resolve it as it would be a shame if this place ever lost it's title of a "hidden gem in Hell's Kitchen".
Wonderful bustling restaurant that will get you to the theater in time, with a belly full of delicious Italian fare!
We had a reservation at 6 pm with tickets to Kinky Boots at 8 pm: We had all three courses, aperitif, and wine…..and we got out with an hour to spare!
Our party of three was seated in an awkward corner, up against the pepper mills and condiments. The restaurant was packed with large parties (6, 8, 14!) and the tables were pretty tight, and the din was LOUD!
Everything else was exceptional: The service! The Burrata! The Chicken Parm! The Sea Bass! The Pasta! and ….of course the Cheesecake. We tried Kir Amarones as aperitifs- bellisimo!
I would absolutely come here again!
This place has great food! I can't eat tomatoes, so I panicked a bit when I noticed that most dishes had tomatoes. They were very nice and offered to make any pasta dish with an Alfredo sauce for me. I had gnocchi with chicken and an Alfredo sauce. It was delicious! My husband had the salmon. The filet was huge!
One piece of advice- give your food a minute to cool before eating. They serve their food piping hot!
I have passed this place a million times. I saw on yelp that it had received some pretty high praise so I decided to stop in. First off it is a great spot for people watching, it is right on 9th Ave. Buuuut as many of you know 9th Ave is super busy and loud with all of the construction going on.
The food was decent, I liked my bolognese, but my gf didn't enjoy her muscles and pasta dish too much. All of their seafood was small. This might be a case of trying to save a little bit. I'm not too sure but it really affected the dish. It was worth a try, but I think there are too many options in the area to warrant a 2nd try.
It's a mixed review for Amarone, because while my entree came up a little short, others in the group did not have that problem and they made up for it on the excellent desert. The establishment itself could use improved lighting. They have a good selection of wine here and knowledgeable staff. I had chicken parm for dinner. The pasta was really good and cooked perfectly. Sauce was okay, but the chicken itself came up a bit short on texture and the breading seemed a bit too soggy on it. Tiramisu for desert was excellent, though. They are reasonably priced for Manhattan, too.
