It took me a few visits to realize why my order was always finished last, even though I arrived in line at the same time as others: they memorize your face and start preparing your order as soon as they see you, and since I always get something different, aha! I realized this when on my second or third visit, the woman tried to guess my order, and then when I was waiting for it to be finished, I remembered that's exactly what I ordered last time, and when I asked her how in the world she remembered, since she sees hundreds of people per day, and I only come here maybe once a month, she just smiled. Her smile is wonderful. I hope she owns this business and it's very successful, because her food is terrific and her service is extra-ordinary in this cold, humid city.
Yay! I finally found my dream Mediterranean food truck in the financial district.
For lunch, I ended up ordering their chicken kabab platter for only $7 and was blown away with how much food I was given.
I managed to get two days of lunch worth only $7 with a drink! Well cooked with a good combination of delicious spices and flavor. As for the chicken , it was juicy and fully cooked, just the way I like it.
Definitely looking forward to grab lunch here once a week!!
From the number of reviews this place gets I would imagine they're still relatively new in the downtown FiDi area. The Greek lamb gyro I got was done really well though and for $5 they even give out free drinks, definitely very economical indeed.
The lamb meat wasn't directly from the spit and looks like probably pre-processed. Next time I might ask if chopping them up is possible to mix in the salad better. Their salad are definitely one of the better ones I've had from a food truck though, tasted quite fresh and generous amount of leaves packed in the pita bread. Plus feta cheese it really didn't feel like a light pita wrap at all.
I think will certainly be visiting this one more often for my Mediterranean food cravings next time 🙂
Oh btw when I was ordering the two owners were having a really nice conversation with the couple in front of me so they're very friendly indeed. Especially on a cold windy November day they were still talking after I left with my food 😀
Parked in front of my office and it always has a line. I decided to give it a whirl starting simple egg on a roll for $2.00. Convenience aside it was a freshly made egg sandwich that had no cold spots and wasn't too greasy. I have not tried any of the lunch food but I am favorably disposed to checking out. I also tried with one withe cheese for and extra 50 cents. Not worth it as the cheese wasn't fully melted and a bit fake tasting. Still i'd go back and plan on continuing to get the egg sandwich. Food is always served with a smile.
It's beginning to get warm outside again. This means escaping much of the humidity the rest of the city experiences since some of us are lucky enough to work on the water. Along Old Slip and Pearl Street, there tend to be a bunch of food trucks during the warmer months. One of these is Ambizza. Ambizza is a Mediterranean truck that offers falafel, kababs, gyros, etc.
I had always noticed the line was pretty long so I finally decided to force my impatient self to wait and give it a try. A long line usually means good things. The lady running the truck takes your order, asks in advance if you want hummus, onions, white or hot sauce, etc. Then you wait. Everything is made to order. For $5, you can get a falafel on pita with hummus and a free drink…Amazing deal for Manhattan! For $6, you can get the platter with includes hummus and a garden salad on the side.
My falafel was one of the best I have ever had. It was fresh and full of flavor. The hummus was perfect and added a nice touch. The pita was also very fresh and warm. My coworker had the kabab platter and ended up taking half of it home, that's how much food they give you! I believe the most expensive item is only $10, which is still a pretty good deal considering where they're located. So yes, you will wait about 10 minutes for your food, yes there will be a line, but it's all worth it.
One of the best trucks in the FiDi that i've tried so far, Ambizza serves huge portions of well cooked mediterranean style food. At lunch time, their small truck doesn't handle the rush of orders super well, but it is well worth the wait (I'd say I waited between 8 and 10 minutes)
If you want to feed 2 with 1 meal, get the mixed grill combo. It's way more than I needed for just myself, I ended up giving quite a bit of it to my always hungry CEO.
The meat is inconsistently cooked sometimes which makes it not quite a perfect 5.
also, don't forget the free soft drink with every lunch combo!
