As a self appointed connoisseur of vanilla ice cream (and other flavors), your palate will be delighted and it's a great way to cool of in the midst of summer. They a have a few different locations, so be sure to stop by and check em out!
Do you even need any persuading to come to Ample Hills? 1,021 positive reviews can't be wrong. They have a wide array of unique flavors, and the ice cream itself is perfectly creamy. I'm not even going to try and recommend my personal favorites because the entirety of their flavor selection just knocks it out of the park.
I suppose the only real downside of this place is that the line is very long and there is not air conditioning inside, which isn't super great considering NYC's sweltering summer humidity. That being said, the ice cream is totally worth the wait
This ample hills has the BEST staff working here. Photogenic, comedic, and the best part is that you dont have to ASK for samples. My cashier let me sample all the popular ones and her personal favorites. You can't go wrong with any of the flavors here and the scoops of ice-cream are the size of a baseball. I tried the m&m cone and it was interesting to try and pretty good, but I think my favorite will always be the good ol' waffle cone. Each specialty cone is an extra $1.50 on top.
The only reason why I gave this place a 4 instead of 5 is because their ice-cream was too sweet for my tastebuds. I really started to lose interest in my ice-cream after finishing 1/3rd of it, but once I start something I always finish so I gobbled it down anyway (: . Love the staff here and if you dont like your ice-cream too sweet, maybe consider sharing!
One of the best ice-cream I ever had and I can honestly say, I am not an ice-cream person. I know, it is sinful! This place is like children's playground – playful, colorful, and fun. The drawings of each flavor were so cute!
Sweet as Honey! After sampling many flavors, I went with this. I loved the honey sweetness and had bits of honeycomb in them. Ice cream texture was smooth and creamy. Cones are also a treat here.
This is a really cool place to hang out or bring kids here. There are also pints of ice cream to go!
Sadly Disappointed
Short review, it's an ice cream shop. I've had this place on my bucket list for a couple of years now. I visit NYC a lot and finally made it here.

I made the mistake of not doing a taste test prior to my ordering, but the Salted Crack Caramel was legitimately the worst ice cream I've ever had at a fancy, $4.50 per KIDS sized scoop place like this. It was as if someone had dumped a vat of sugar into it and it was entirely way too sweet to even finish. The little pieces of crunchy honey crumble in it could have been good if the ice cream wasn't made of pure sugar.
My friends really liked their chocolate and cookies and cream flavors though, so maybe I just got unlucky. And so did the 100 other people who emptied out that batch. *shudders*
The lines are crazy long but that's because there's a cone of flavorful gold at the end. With so many playful, whimsical and creative flavors, it does take a few tastes and minutes to decide what to get. I got the flight which is 6 mini scoops. To stay, it comes in a cute ceramic half dozen egg-holder type of dish. when you get it to go, the staff puts 6 mini scoops into 2 separate cups making it hard to hold and eat.
I got the ooeey gooey butter cake, snap mallow pop, salted crack caramel, vanilla bean, sweet cream & cookie and the coffee. It was hard to decide but my favorite was the snap mallow pop. My husband got the sweet cream and cookie on their home made cones. Definitely more worth it than the taster, you get a lot more ice cream.
Although the ice cream is on the sweeter side, it was super creamy and full of chunky cookie/candy awesomeness. Cant wait to come back to try even more genius creations.
I don't like custard… and Ample Hills ice cream is custard ice cream. It's purely a palate preference thing. I prefer flavor instead of getting hit on the head with pure egg and cream that weighs you down like a ton of bricks. It's like putting lead into your stomach. For example, if you try the mint chocolate flavor, there is only a hint of mint zing, you get hit over the head with cream and heaviness.
I had tried the Salted Crack a few years ago and thought it was overly creamy, eggy and plain gross. I returned with a friend this weekend and had various samples of various flavors, all left me with a nauseous feeling.
BUT I did enjoy the lemon ginger sorbet. THAT was good and really refreshing on a 100-degree day.
Would I return on my own volition? No.
If I did return, because I was with a friend, would I have a puss face and not order anything? No! I would order a sorbet.
