The place has ambiance and good food.
The decor is similar to that of a junk room. All sorts of odd trinkets hanging on the wall, a stiffed rooster, a spooky clown painting, and a picture of baby jesus to name a few. The place is dimly lit with no windows, so no telling if there is still daylight out ( I will get to that later). Latin music is playing in the background, so you might have to speak up at times to hear others speak, and of course, wherever there is latin music, there is also a dance floor so theres a space to get up and shake it.
It is not a quiet place to sit down and eat, you will hear music and on occasion the staff gets together to sing Happy Birthday to whoever is celebrating it, they make quite a scene.
The food here is phenomenal. A little on the pricey side, but you get quality food. Their appetizer platter is labeled on the menu as a plate for two, but 4 can easily enjoy it.
I have ordered several things from the menu, but on my most recent visit, I had the Ajiaco, traditional chicken soup. That was one of the best soups I ever had. It is served in a relatively large cauldron, with a side of capers and heavy cream ( ifyou are not familiar with Ajiaco, that is how it's served) and rice. It was well worth the price on the menu.
I read other reviews complaining about the food, one reviewer complained about his burger not being to his liking. They do not specialize in burgers, neither do they claim.
They do however have great steaks, and I have ordered the skirt steak in the past and have no complaints at all.
Overall, food is great, ambiance is amazing, service is pretty darn good. If you are looking for a quiet romantic dinner, skip this place, but if you are looking to go out and celebrate and have a good time with food, drinks, and music, then it is the place for you.
I have been here at 5pm when it was still sunny out, but when I stepped outside, didn't realized it was 8:30 and dark until I stepped outside, and that will throw you off.
At first glance u say to your self what the? So where do I begin ??
Big place w seating inside & out doors , watch the floors outside there is sand on the ground , hahahah yeah sand too funny.
Walking in looking around u think to your self somehow u boarded a plane & ended up in Colombia w out the hassle of going to JFK , Lol.
DEFINATELY very authentic & almost idential to the one in Colombia.
I was here for a friends birthday this past wknd & I must say it was a pleasant surprise.
We had our table reservation & were sitting in the area right nex to the bar the staff
was very friendly & attentive , always checking to see if u needed a refill on
our drinks.
Once the drinking starts it all breaks loose & everyone starts hitting the dance floor This place has some great music , really good mix of everything from salsa , bachata to bolero & even some decent house music.
It gets crazy in here u would never know by looking at it !! They give u funky hats to put on & also pass around balloons to play with while u r on the dance floor.
Some of us eventually got hungry & decide to order some food , we went with the Teja-Arrilla Andres ….great plate to share has a little bit of everything all meats are grilled & pretty tasty. We also got some empanaditas , mini beef empanadas these were yummy.
My only real complaint would be its location…its so odd ? its like smack in the middle of no where it seems!! it be nice if it were more easily accessible if u r not driving its not gonna be easy to get to but at least u can always take a cab.
This place is a lot of fun , decent food & prices , nice service & totally crazy atmosphere.
So I went here last night for a friend's birthday dinner. It was a party of 15. When you first walk in you are transported into a real Columbian restaurant! They really have an eye for detail. We were well accommodated for our large party. I must say for Latin cuisine, this place is pretty pricey. I checked the website before hand and had a particular dish in mind. When I get there the price was raised. The owner said he is in the process of updating the menu (FYI). I order the monster burger medium rare and it was a touch past that. It was also a bit too salty and lacked natural flavor. Kinda like salt was just added to the top and not properly seasoned with love throughout lol. I must say the side of fries were actually better than the burger! If you are the birthday person they do take pictures and put hats on everyone, that was nice. Overall great atmosphere…less than average food
I like this place! location may not be that perfect, but the ambiance, the music, friendly waiter (who was new and made some mistakes but that's ok) and generally very good food and portions make up for that!
We went and sat outside, had a few drinks (their Mai Tai, not so much alcohol, their tequila sunrise, quite good!). The chips with guacamole were great, the chips well salted, the guacamole just PERFECT, with a good taste of lime!
For main course, i had the two pork chops and was delighted to get 3 on my (HUGE) plate!! they were possibly the best pork chops i have ever had, coupled with a small saucer containing a dipping sauce that made it even tastier. My girlfriend had the 16oz steak and it was so much that she's having the rest for lunch today!
Dessert was tiramisu, tasty but not spectacular, and tres leches which was amazing! so rich and flavorful, i fell in love with it!
Overall, good service and atmosphere, even if the music is a bit loud. Will come here again
If you are going on a first date and want a quiet and romantic setting, don't come here.
If you want to eat good food, DANCE, and have shots of Aguardiente, getyoassoverhere.
We came for my dad's 55th bday on a Friday night and it was a party of twenty. We got here early as suggested, maybe around 7:45 and it was pretty empty. By 8:30 this place was PACKED. As in, all tables were taken, the bar was full, and there was a line outside. To someone who is from Miami, the idea of standing in a line anywhere in the FREEZING weather is unfathomable.
The service? AMAZING. And please remember that this was one waiter for a party of TWENTY. The food?? Honestly, I was surprised. Again, we came here more to have fun. The place is not cheap so I was expecting it to be good, at best. The entrana (skirt steak) I ordered has had to be one of the best ever! Not to mention the portions are very generous.
Ambiance? Off the bat, you can tell this place is FUN. And super Colombian lol. The music is classic, good salsa. The kind of stuff I grew up with and while my dad tells me "THAT'S good music". There are bras on the ceiling by the bar. And there are shot girls coming around your tables selling Guaro.
Coming from a Colombian background that loves to party, this place was perfect!
Will definitely visit again when I'm back in the city.
Great, fun atmosphere. Go with a group of friends. They play a lot of spanish music,if that's what you're into. Go for it!
Took stars away for their pricey food menu, not that serious. Service is ok.
Andres Carne de Tres is one of those places that you either love or hate. The place is obnoxiously decorated, the music and patrons loud, and it is an overall fun experience(in my book). Given the location I initially thought this place looked sketchy as heck. I mean there's a cemetery in close proximity and the place is dimly lit. The outside area is beach themed and cool little knick knacks line the surrounding area. Needless to say, i thought for sure i was entering the bar in from Dusk till Dawn. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the multitude of things that dangle from the ceiling. I personally loved it, it gave the place character and me and my girls had a feeling we were going to have a really good time. Our food wasn't amazing, but it was good. As for our margaritas we were feeling pretty good after two. The best aspect of the night, was when a live band came out and started playing drums. I'm not sure what regional music they were playing but it sounded like it could be samba….. Maybe.
I haven't been back in months but I will be going back in February to celebrate a friends pre game birthday party. I will update this review accordingly!.
Going anywhere to eat or for some type of service with a Groupon or Living Social pretty much guarantees that you will be treated differently. I've witnessed this repeatedly in restaurants, bars, spas, you name it. I think proprietors assume that it's a cheap customer or that it's someone who just cares about a deal and wants to get something without paying for the value of it. It's probably much easier to assess a business accurately when you are paying the normal rates and the staff is on their normal behavior, minus the automatic disdain towards discount coupon patrons. That is the case with many businesses in NYC, Andres is no different.
With that said, Andres is a rowdy place that can be fun if you know what to expect and are open minded. I had a great time there and would definitely go back. The vibe was cheery. I did not have a Groupon and found the service to be pretty good, we had a VERY attentive server who was knowledgable, friendly and polite. It was a Saturday night, pretty crowded and the papayera that came around to the birthday tables was highly amusing. There are probably Colombian restaurants in other parts of Queens with higher-quality food and better preparation, but overall the food was decent. I don't think you go there to be impressed by what's on your plate but to have fun, listen to music and throw some drinks back. Great for groups too. Certainly, the beach concept out front is unique. I'm going to go back during the party hours and reassess, I get the feeling it's better suited for that than for a sit down dinner.
