  1. Trekked all the way here from Brooklyn for an event on a Thursday. First off, I was really impressed by the service. I felt that everyone was friendly and attentive…from the greeter, to co-owner walking around and finally my waitress made many stops at my table despite the night being busy.

The atmosphere was definitely fun. The layout makes the place look like the hybrid between a restaurant and a bar. The bar being the focal piece, occupies a good chunk of space and is nicely decorated. If I lived nearby, I would come to people watch and have a drink or two. As for drinks, that night they a nice happy hour going on (well drinks, wine, sangrias for $7-8).Their sangria was tasty, I had two then settled for a white as the night went.

On to food. I've heard they've changed chefs recently. Ordered two appetizers, the beef Empanadas and Guava BBQ wings ($9). Both dishes had great presentation. Both tasted great. I liked how the Empanadas came with a side of baby arugula salad and the wings came with a side of plaintains chips. The dips that came along were a nice addition as well.

Overall, really good ambiance. Conducive to intimate meeting or with a group of friends. And the DJ kept playing some nice tunes.

  2. Friday night around 8 had a gentlemen heavy crowd but they weren't interested in me. Lol.  I didn't try the cocktails but enjoyed a few glasses of Rosé.  The shared plates we had from the Preview Menu were pretty good.  The wings were tasty but a little dry.  The chicken fritters were delicious as were the short ribs nachos.  I'm not sure there is a real draw for me to go back but I wouldn't be opposed if someone else wanted to check it out.  I'd be curious to see what it's like on another evening.

  3. Why?:
Like, I am mad to have to write this about this place that I wanted, WANTED to like. Because I would like to have as many play areas uptown as downtown. **Sighs**

    What?:
I scanned the menu thoroughly. I was in the mood for some beef. Burger vs Steak. Wait, WHAT? It's Skirt steak–cooked medium– but of course!! My company for the evening went with their version of a "cuban" grilled cheese sandwich.

    How?:
Food arrives. Cuban grilled cheese sandwich is served first and my company thought it was yummy. Steak is served at the same time as my neighbor who also ordered steak. Neighbor's steak was a considerably longer, and leaner, better cut of meat. It also appeared to be medium. Steak I received was a thick slab burned on top and so overcooked I wanted to stop eating it.

At this point I was considering the salmon, but server said it was no problem at all and that à new steak  would come out quickly. So after 10 minutes it gets exchanged for a bloody, raw mess with a few grill marks. Very uneven cooking technique. So disappointing.

I didnt want to be that person but sent it back.  This time I got the Salmon to go, mostly because the waitress pleaded that I should not leave hungry. I paid full price for my drink (which went unfinished) and the salmon. The manager came over to ask how our expérience was and of course I didnt sugarcoat it.  She said she was unaware of what had happened and said we should return for brunch on a Saturday so that she could buy us a round.

Salmon was ok the next day, I threw out the sides as they looked meager and I didnt want to risk more disappointment. More than likely will never return.

  4. I attended a book launch with a girlfriend and it afforded me the opportunity to check out Angel of Harlem. There were complimentary appetizers which allowed us to sample their salsa and guacamole (pretty good) wings, and yucca fries. Just a note to some, yucca is a starch and it has no taste therefore, the fries are tasteless to some but those from the Spanish Caribbeans are accustomed to it and though I'm from neither indigenous regions, I like it.

The cocktails were okay. Their menu seems limited however I'd like to give them another chance on a night there's not an event. Also, there's a live DJ which brings gets the the grown and sexy crowd moving.

  5. Decent drinks…  Ordered yucca fries. Not very tasty or as flavorful as I've had in order Cuban restaurants.  Ordered wings and chicken tendered called fritters.  Food is not impressive.  Nothing that your would come running back to.

    Atmosphere was friendly….

  6. Great addition to the Harlem restaurant scene.  I visited this spot on a Friday after work with my husband around 5ish.  We sat at the bar since we were only grabbing drinks.  The bartender was very nice and knowledgeable.  I ordered from their signature cocktails list and picked the Caribbean Queen which is their spin on a Rum Punch with Wray & Nephew.  I LOVED IT. I enjoyed it so much I got a second one.  After two drinks we decided to order some small bites.

This restaurant is still on their preview menu since they been open for 2-3 months.   The preview had a nice selection from fish to arroz con pollo to wings.  We ordered the latin Flatbread to share.  The bartender came back after a couple of minutes to tell us they were out of them.  I was bummed so we ordered the Guava bbq wings.  They were a bit on the dry side and didn't knock my socks off . The couple next to us ordered the chips and guac which smelled and look good.

The decor of the restaurant is very colorful and modern.  The bar is very large and there are normally 2 bartenders working to accommodate the customers.   Apparently this restaurant is owned by the same people who own Corner Social and compared to it has a more laid back atmosphere . I love the music selection as well.

This a great place to grab a drink and a small biteand perfect for a ladies night out as well.  I plan on returning soon.
