I came here a while back and definitely forgot to write a review, but I like this place! It has pretty good italian food, a lot of it is in a pink sauce. I had the lasagna and my friend had the penne. I liked his a lot better than mine since the sauce was different.
The place is cozy but there is definitely room. It is very clean and the bathrooms are among the best Ive seen.
Service is very good. The staff is friendly and they are attentive enough without being overbearing. There was also a birthday celebration and the way they sing is the cuttest I've seen.
There are many an Italian restaurant in my Ridgehood, and Rus recently dined at this one on a weeknight. It was relatively empty, but a few families were enjoying a lovely summer evening supper.
We ordered the spaghetti Carbonara and the Chicken Parmigiana. While we waited for our food we were served some crusty bread with hot oil. Very tasty. We then saw the waiter carry over a plate of fried calamari to a neighboring table…It thus wasn't too long before we ordered a serving for ourselves.
The calamari was good. Not greasy. Pretty large serving. More than enough for two to share. Not too much breading. Decent.
Our food arrived. Carbonara comes in a HUGE portion. The sauce is thick and rich. The bacon adds a much needed salt factor. I would definitely order this again. However, prepare to share or to bring home a huge tray of leftovers.
Rusty's chicken was good, however, if it had been pounded any thinner, it would have disappeared. Not sure why the chicken was that thin? Probably to cut costs. This was served with a side of delicious, garlicy sautéed escarole. This is definitely worth trying.
Despite the fact that we were insanely full, we did decide to get dessert. The chocolate truffle mousse was good. A bit too much cocoa powder was dabbed on top. Also, the base was inconsistent. Parts of the mousse had a thin cake base, other parts did not. Weird.
Anywho, this was a pretty good meal. Considering that Ridgewood can sometimes seem like it's lacking in the dining department…Antica Trattoria is proof that there's no harm in being old school in a modern era.
My initial visit was a bit tentative since we just decided to pop in. The restaurant knocked it out of the park. The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine was tasty. The mini meatball appetizers was tender and flavorful. The veal parm was delicate and a great tomato sauce. The tiramisu was light and went well with a single shot of espresso (served with lemon twist!). The complimentary amaretto digestive was a complete home run in terms of service. Definitely would go back – maybe even for a dedicated trip.
The food is good but today I'm told they don't deliver to my house, despite them doing so LAST Wednesday. Obviously, this place doesn't want my business since I don't exactly live right next to Fresh Pond. And you wonder why I just go to Manhattan instead of supporting local business in my own neighborhood? Attitude like that invites it.
I love supporting my local businesses, Antica was a regular place for me years back and then i just stopped going, for no good reason, well i went back last night along w/ my Ma, Step Dad & fiance. We ordered a 1/2 carafe of the house Cabernet ($12) for about 5 full glasses, can't beat it. They put warm Italian bread with a dish of sundried tomato paste & olive oil to dip on the table, that really got the appetite going. We ordered baked clams and fried calamari for apps, both were very good. I ordered the bow tie pasta w/ salmon in a pink cream sauce, AWESOME! Fiance ordered risotto pescatore, a nice portion & tasty, she liked it, to me it seemed more like rice w/ fish than risotto but she enjoyed it. My Ma had linguine w/ fish, she loved it & Step Dad had Shrimp Oreganta, he gave me one, they were big and tasty. For dessert we ordered 2 tartufo for the table, all in all everything was very good and we need to start frequenting this place again, GO, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED, I PROMISE!!! We all need to get out of the habit of thinking we have to go somewhere far or ritzy to get good food, many times you can find it in your own backyard. $132.00 total, i'm satisfied.
Absolutely fell in love with this place after celebrating my brother's birthday here. Another family member had been here a few weeks ago, and recommended we come here for dinner. I was hesitant because I usually don't go out to eat Italian food. But I was couldn't be more fortunate to find another great restaurant worthy of returning to.
I made reservations for six people. Our table was ready when we arrived and it seemed like a quiet Friday night. I loved that the place wasn't too overwhelming in terms of the crowds you sometimes find in restaurants. We were promptly given water and bread with oil. We had to ask for more bread because it was served warm and delicious.
For appetizer, we ordered fried calamari, baked clams, and fried mozzarella. I ordered spaghetti trattoria for my entree and nearly finished the entire bowl of pasta. This never happens. I usually eat half of my pasta dish because by then I'm so stuffed. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their dishes. I tried the broccoli rabe as well and definitely recommend that as a side dish with your entree.
Without giving away too much, if you're thinking about where to go to celebrate a birthday, I'm highly recommending Antica Trattoria. Make sure you tell the staff so they can get prepped. You can thank me later.
I will definitely come back and perhaps try a fish entree next time.
Yeah it's true that many years ago this place was a bit better but I must say this place still has to be one of my local favorites for a great italian meal. The grilled portobello mushroom appetizer with balsamic dressing along with the grilled calamari and shrimp for my entree was perfect. Their pastas and sauce are still delicious as it was years back. The decor is nothing special but it works. A simple local delicious italian restaurant that you will come back to year after year.
