Apna Bazaar Cash & Carry
“They have almost the exact same things as Patel but more options on rice and maybe couple of more veggie options.”
“(Subzi Mandi next door runs a distant second with the smaller area stores serving as backup, usually for specific items the larger stores may not carry.)”
“Next time you need a 80-lb bag of lentils, split peas, moong beans, chick peas, etc, this is the place.”

This is where I go to get all my spices. They have the best selection of spices at the best prices. You can find any spice you need for Indian and most for Middle Eastern cooking at this store. Also a great place to get nuts. Have small and large bags of nuts such as almonds, cashews and mixed nuts. The store is hectic at times. But all stores in Jackson Heights are. The crowds can get heavy and the lines can get long but it is worth the wait for the prices and what you are buying. But it can be like a zoo with all the people.
Looking to buy Indian food items? Or just simply wanting to buy some fresh veggies at a low price? This place has it all! I'm literally always here! Love their selection of fresh veggies, various types of naans, Achars and everything else that the place has to offer! Only bad thing about the place is that it's always crowded!!! But I guess that goes for any of the Indian grocery stores in Jackson Heights!
I have to be honest, I don't give Apna much credit. It is, after all, located at what I call the "Jackson Heights corner of mayhem."
While they may have fresh fruits and vegetables, spices, rice, and other specialty ingredients like my go-to place Patel (yelp.com/biz/patel-bros-…) the size and organization of Apna – inside and out – is what keeps it as my #2 go-to place.
The aisles are super crowded and long (so you have to go to almost all the way to the other end of the market before you can go to another aisle). The worst is when it's cold out and the store is forced to move all of the fresh fruits and veggie they usually keep outside into the already cramped space. It's a frenzy when you're trying to check out since there registers are a linear counter instead of line-promoting stalls. It can be an absolutely zoo and actually offers a lot of similarities to the vehicular and pedestrian traffic around Apna.
