If I could give no stars, I would. The waiters and waitresses obviously did not receive proper training or never served a day in their life! When guests are seated, always bring water. Especially if it took 30 min to bring drinks that were ordered!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 bartenders, 4 drinks…..30 minutes to come? Its a Wednesday!!!!!!!! Not Saturday. When the appetizers arrive and I still don't have a glass of water OR alcohol on the table…..I'm wondering who has the issue? The waitress…or the bartender. Do I need to leave the table, buy a ski mask and bring a rifle to get a Beverage ??? Do I have to choke on something 1st? When my drink finally arrived, A "Pomegranate Margarita" was served in a Tall glass mind you….filled with Tequila BUT no pomegranate!? I guess I needed the liquor not to turn the fuck up on anyone!!!!!! Its the middle of the week, don't play with me !!!!! The Chili Nachos we ordered were stale! The only thing worth ordering is the Chicken Wontons. I won't ever come here again. This was a 2nd time and a last. It took another 30 minutes for the waitress to calculate our bill which was all by an automated system …….yea. Never Again.
Upstairs or Bar?
*Thinks it's over for a mere 5 seconds & decide to go upstairs*
We were forewarned that the service is slow yet we proceeded to take the escalator to the yellow brick road. First infraction occurred when the host semi greeted us. He said something slick under his breath that I did not catch. Had it been caught there would've been a problem.
Our waitress introduced herself & we decided to put in our drinks & apps. The wait for drinks was despicable. 25 mins to make a Long Island seems outrageous being that the patrons at the bar had their drink in tote. Can someone please explain why the hell it took so long when there's 3 bartenders working. I really felt like I was at my Ob-Gyn's office waiting to be seen.
It came time for the plates & utensils to be utilized. Upon receiving my plate I noticed green food stains on the plate. I called Chyna over in passing to let her know the plate had leftover food on it. She takes the plate, doesn't say anything & proceeds to walk around with it while she checks on her other tables. Here I am in an establishment without a plate & without a new one. What am I suppose to do, eat off of the fckng table? Where's my high chair? I'm not a child!
This goes on for the better half of me "dining" here. As Chyna passes by we catch her attention.
Me: Can I have a plate? *attitude activated*
Chyna: OMG! You don't have a plate?
Me: UM YEAH!!!
We ordered an array of apps to satiate our hunger. We ordered the Grilled Chicken Wontons, Spicy Chili & Cheese Nachos & a Grilled Chicken Quesadilla.
Pro: 1/2 priced apps & drinks.
Con: everything except for the Wontons tasted like it was cooked in 2 week old grease. Isn't that a health hazard?
The Quesadilla tasted like fish, the Nachos were staler than waking up with morning breath. The Wontons were delish! The chicken was marinated in a delicious asian dressing & the slaw on top was perfection. Although it was fried it didn't taste stale or have a 2 week old greasy taste to it. As terrible as I was feeling about the other apps the Wontons made up for it.
We were warned & now I'm WARNING YOU ALL! Don't do it to yourself. You'll end up catching a case in this shitty hell hole of a "restaurant" for lack of a better word.
I definitely don't enjoy dining at this location. I dined here once back when they first opened and it was just not on par with my experiences at the other chain locations. The hostess wasn't even there to acknowledge us so we just went up the escalators. We were seated quickly but it took a while for a waiter to come see us. Then the food took even longer to come out and when it did come out, it was missing some of the items we ordered. Then our server must have left because we had a new server, but thankfully he was of a higher caliber than the woman we started with. I heard some of the other diners also complaining and the manager outright refusing to help a diner who's entire entree was inedible. Also our food was really not reminiscent of what you'd get at the other locations. This was 3 years ago but I still remember it clear as day because it was such a bad experience and from what I understand it's only gone further downhill as my niece has been back a few other times since we last went. I definitely do not intend to dine at the Jamaica Ave location again.
Expectations were low before coming in here and that says a lot. I've been here on a couple different occassions. Once when the wait was ridiculously long for two people (settled for the bar and unattentive service). Again when they were closed in the middle of the afternoon for a health inspection. Now, I've worked in restaurants and we do not suddenly close during an inspection which leads me to believe they have some real issues there.
I only ever stop here on my way to Manhattan or commuting back to my side of Queens, but it's never worth it. Won't be returning.
The wait service was aloof at best. The burger I had very CLEARLY had sliced cheese – not cheddar cheese. Please, please just go to Taco Bell. It's actually better than this. I'm not even joking.
This review is for takeout. Called in my lunch order ahead of time. It was a bit of a wait to get my order taken, they must have been busy. I ordered a lunch special a 1/2 sandwich and soup for $6.99. I was excited because it was cold and I wanted a hot lunch (normally I bring a salad to lunch for work). When I arrived to Applebees I was warmly greeted and I told the hostess I was there to pick up an hour. She didn't hear me so I told her again and she sent me upstairs to the bar. When I got off the escalator another hostess greeted me and I told her why I was there, and she didn't understand me either the first time then sent me to the bar. I told the person at the bar what I was there for and they didn't understand me either. "I am here to pick up a to-go order." I was told my order would be ready in 10 minutes. I had gotten there 20 minutes after and my order was not ready. I didn't have to wait too long for food, but I did have to wait a long time for the person to ring me up. The restaurant was not busy as it was barely noon on a weekday. There were no utensils in the bag so the person had to go all the way back to the kitchen to get them. Oh, and while I was standing at the bar, two more people asked me what i needed. i told them I was being taking care of, but the wanted me to explain further. "I am just picking up an order." Of course, they didn't understand the first time either.
The food was not very good after all that. The tomato basil soup was too tangy. The bread on the grilled cheese sandwich was good and crispy, not soggy. However, the cheese combo was anything exciting. The portion seemed pretty small, but I guess for $6.99 I can't complain too much. I wasn't filled up after that meal, but I was starving either.
I think it is great that the staff there wants to make sure you are being helped, but 5 people is a little overkill. Also, they should have things ready at the bar or take-out-station like utensils so the person doesn't have to wait longer. The reason this place only gets two stars is because the quality of the lunch specials for the amount of time you have to wait. I would recommend for takeout ordering one of their regular dishes or appetizers that they are known for. While the restaurant was clean and had a nice ambiance, takeout seemed to take forever, I would have understood if the place was packed, but it wasn't. I think this place may be better suited for dining in if you have a little time to spare.
After two weeks in Central Asia, I knew that my first meal off the plane should be something all American.
So I went to Applebee's. There's one not very far from the end of the AirTrain, in a location that I was able to find even without access to an American SIM card and phone data. Just head up the Jamaica strip, which is packed with pedestrians on weekends as people take advantage of all the amenities located at the end of the subway line.
I went with a large bacon cheeseburger, along with a frozen margarita and two Diet Cokes. It was a long, long flight from Uzbekistan and I was ready for some greasy food. The fries were a little cold, but other than that, things lived up to my expectations. The patty was large, the BBQ sauce sweet and the waitress was super nice and let me charge my laptop behind the bar. That meant after leaving I was able to go to the Verizon store and get something back online.
A word of warning: this place, like so many in the city, gets super crowded on the weekends. So definitely come early or get ready for a wait.
