Meat enthusiasts should check out the fried seasoned spare ribs, augmented with a fiery red sauce. The frying adds a nice textural twist; just keep an eye out for where the meat ends and the bone begins.
The Yum Koom Chieng, one of the spicy salads, has a great lime/chili zing to it. The only downside is that it "looks like salad." In other words, iceberg lettuce is taking up real estate that could be used to house more exotic ingredients. But then I didn't mind the lettuce when I used it as a sauce delivery mechanism to lap up the powerful liquid. The sliced Chinese sausage in this salad was like a cousin of soppressata.
Sooooo legit.
Tofu tod and papaya salad – standard Thai fare, and rather than greasy/watery they're solid and delicious. I love noodles, and theirs are nicely textured and seriously spicy. $35 for two apps, two entrees, and a lot of leftovers.
Disappointed.
First I ordered for delivery, paid for extra rice and sticky rice and that wasn't included when I got my order. Boooo.
Now that I got that off my chest on to the food
Thai iced tea-best I've had in a while.
Tom kha soup- mediocre at best. Very bland
Massaman curry- flavor was great, but so watery it was practically soup. Now I know curry isn't always as thick as I like it to be but this was literally water.
Pad thai-pretty good best dish I ordered.
Sadly won't order again. Maybe I got the wrong dishes but so disappointed.
My husband and I dined here on Labor Day Monday. My husband tends to over-order, as a result of that, we had the chance to experience for their dishes that night.
Steamed Mussels (Appetizer)
This was very different from what I anticipated and I enjoyed it very much. The broth was clear but was bursting with aromatic flavors – white pepper, onions, ginger, lemongrass, mint, basil. I only wish there were more mussels.
Ped Pananeng (Crispy Duck in red pananeng sauce)
This is the best crispy duck in our opinion, hugely credited to the amazing sauce. It was sweet, a little spicy and smooth & creamy. The duck was really crispy.
Pla Kra Pow (Fried pieces of fish sauteed with basil, chili peppers, garlic and onion)
Another delicious dish, full of crisp and flavor. The only thing we did not like was the amount of bones in the fish.
KaNa Moo Krob (Pork Belly with Chinese broccoli)
We needed greens to balance our meal and this was the perfect vegetable dish to complete the table. There were pieces of crispy pork belly here and there, mostly greens. I think there could have been more greens to fill the plate, my husband thought it was fine.
We are happy to have found our new favorite thai place in Astoria. 🙂
I've been here at least 5 times and regularly order the pad see ew. Tasting off of other people's plates though, I've sampled many of their noodle and rice dishes. Their pad see ew tastes pretty standard compared to other thai restaurants in NYC, but their thai fried rice is particularly flavorful compared to other places I've been. Also, their chicken off the special menu is one of the best thai dishes I've ever tasted. Has a very authentic atmosphere and service is excellent.
Stopped in here for dinner in my new neighborhood. Cute little restaurant with the servers dressed up in traditional Thai apparel.
I had the Kouy Teaw Kee Mowe with chicken. One of my favorite noodle dishes. Tasted extra spicy, just the way I like it! Great flavor. Noodles were a little too soft, but it was still so delicious. Lots of chinese broccoli and basil in the dish.
Great location right near teh 36th Ave stop. Will definitely be back to try more stuff on the menu!
We were in the mood for some Thai food but did not want to venture out too far I was recomended this place by a friend who lives in the area.
We stopped by this past wknd on a sunday & since it was later in the day we had no trouble being seated.
Once seated we started w the Crispy Sprill rolls for appetizers , I thought they would be "regular" rolls but to my surprised they were various small ones , this was cool & they were pretty tasty.
For my main dish I went with the Chicken Pad See Yu , yummy… this was really good it had some veggies & enough chicken , good size portion.
My friend tried the Chicken Pad Thai , also very good.
The Place itself is not very big but i find it to be kinda cozy , cute decor, decent service & very reasonable prices.
I am glad that my friend suggested this place , everything turned out great nice authentic food chances are I will continue to return.
I came here with a group of friends for a hangover lunch on Easter. Arharn Thai is on a more quiet avenue but they are a pretty good gem tucked away on this street. It seems like Thai food is one of the more popular types of restaurants in Astoria and Arharn keeps a more traditional family owned charm. Looking into the back of the kitchen there is no doubt the whole family works at this restaurant with the grandfather manning the kitchen in back. The front of the house isn't the fanciest or prettiest by a long shot but clearly caters to the locals and people who are maybe on their 4-5th date. The prices are fair, the portion sizes are good, and the pad thai I had was perfect. Is it my favorite Thai restaurant in the neighborhood? There are others that I like more but if I'm in this area and don't feel like walking I wouldn't be disappointed eating here.
