Nice spot for a quick lunch. I had not been for a while so it was good to come back to this spot. Menus were a little different but the service and atmosphere were pretty much the same as always. The prices for the lunch were over the top. The sea bass fillet special was the lunch and despite getting the toppings wrong it was still a tiny piece of fish for over 30. Unbelievably overpriced. Not going to hurry back.
I came here with a colleague for lunch. This is your stereotypical "old school" Italian restaurant, replete with white tablecloths and waiters in tuxes. I've been told they make a mean sea food salad, but I actually had a mushroom filled pasta special.
Absolutely wonderful. Seriously… with a nice truffle oil finish. It was just excellent. I only had the one dish so I can't speak on anything else, but for me they're one-for-one…
My firm held a farewell party for my (former) coworker at Arno's last week. I've only been here once previously, and shockingly, given how good the food and service were last week, I have no recollection whatsoever of my first visit. It's either I am aging and losing my memory, or the food/service weren't memorable the first time, but that is besides the point. This time around, I ordered the shrimp cocktail appetizer and was served 4 fresh, crispy, ginormous prawns with cocktail sauce. I also had the red snapper entree, which was delicious and the perfect portion, still allowing me to end my meal with a berry tart and a cup of cappuccino, light and just the right amount of sweetness to leave me satisfied.
The service here was pretty exceptional as well. Our waiter was extremely friendly, singing my (former) coworker a farewell song and exuding nothing but genuine friendliness and love for his work throughout the entire service. The decor is a bit dated, but expected from a traditional Italian restaurant. Nonetheless, I would recommend giving this restaurant a try.
Our belated office holiday lunch headed to Arno this year. The semi-obscure Midtown location belies a solid, old-school Italian-American relic that has some miles on it and resists modernity: think white tablecloth, your grandparents' living room lighting, and dessert carts.
The service is deferentially gruff and authoritative. Large men in suits patrol the dining room, taking your order. This is not the kind of place where you want to get too particular with your order.
All the appetizers were irreproachable: perfectly crusted calamari, fresh oysters, cold antipasti, and fantastic Vognole Oreganate (baked clams). I was happy as one by the time my entree arrived. Luckily I went with lighter fare. Dentice All'aurora is a red snapper sauteed with clams, shrimp, garlic, fresh tomato and white wine. It was just about right.
Prices are definitely in the above-comfortable range for a casual meal, but if someone's taking you out on business, or you just really love these 50s-style time vaults and Mad Men martini lunches, Arno has the right spirit.
The price on the menu seems like it's not up to date. So is the steak that my friend got. The steak that he had was definitely one the of the best items on the menu. I believe it's around $46-49. I took a bite of it and it was absolutely one of the best steaks I've eaten. It was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
However, I did not give it 5 stars because my veal chop parm was a little average. It didn't have much to it. It was very plain and a bit over cooked. As you can see, the cheese was burnt and the veal was dry. I regret not getting the steak.
Arno's is large and kinda fancy, but like most other restaurants in the area, was a major letdown.
I got the Scaloppine Alla Cardinale (veal scaloppine sautéed with white wine, prosciutto, mozzarella and roasted peppers). It came with a scoop of mashed potatoes.
This is something I could EASILY make at home, the presentation was not nice, and they have the nerve to charge almost $30 bucks.
Not impressed at all.
Came here for lunch with a friend and had a cold seafood salad with octopus and calamari, this is a dish which can be great or aweful, lucky for me it was delicious, the flavovors were just right with a little celery, no stinky fish smell so it was probably prety fresh.
Needed a place close to MSG to have dinner before a Billy Joel concert. Stumbled upon Arno and was up to giving it a shot. The service was good and they sat us right away. The restaurant wasn't that packed at 6:00 pm but by 7pm the people were rolling in so I'm happy we missed the rush. Started with a house salad that was nice and ordered the risotto with assorted seafood. Pretty big portion, and plenty of seafood to go with it. Risotto was cooked right and was an overall above average dish. Arno is a place I would visit again.
