Went here with a group of six. Turned out to be very expensive. I ordered the black linguine with shrimp. The shrimp looked like the frozen kind from Costco.
I came here on a Friday night and overall had a great experience. The dining room itself is in the back of the restaurant and is intimate and cozy while the front part of the restaurant is more of a walk-in, stand-up, loud area.
The dining room is definitely more of a date ambiance than a catch-up-with-your-friends-loudly deal. We sat in the dining room which made for a great date. We both got pastas to start with, a bottle of wine, and dessert to finish. The pastas were pretty good, but I wouldn't say they were amazing. I got the strascinati with lamb sausage and mushroom, and it was pretty good. Definitely very mushroom-y, so if you don't love mushrooms, don't get it. For dessert, we got the sorbet trio, and it was really good. The homemade sorbet is flavorful and fruity, and it's served on this amazing soft biscuit.
Overall I think this is a great date spot and I had a good experience. I think if I'm here again, I'd try an entree as opposed to pasta, but other than that I have no complaints.
I was here on Saturday 8/31/13.
was here 2.5 stars… overpriced for the quality of the food.
Slow service, with a half empty place. Cute interior but kinda bland; they could have done something with the white wall in the main room.
Salmon carpaccio: very fresh and melting in your mouth; ok, but not particularly flavorful.
Roasted chicken: tender, but bland; the veggies had more flavor.
Brussells sprouts: not warm enough, and where was the bacon?
Good pilsner.
Quite a charming spot! Usually you need a reservation day of otherwise you can sit at the bar/booth. They have a downstairs area built very similar to Europe itself, through a hidden stair way and around a steep turn you'll find too cozy dining rooms. The food was delicious. We had a vegetarian pasta dish and the salmon/asparagus dish. The pasta was more of my favorite because I would prefer a rich sauce versus a vegetarian sauce with my fish. The desserts were about $9 each and the chocolate molten brownie was awesome, I ate the entire thing myself! 😀 Wines can run you quite the tab – ranging from $15 up a glass 🙁 The staff is VERY nice. The manager, Aliana is super friendly, she chatted with us for quite a bit and has wonderful inspirational stories. I'm glad we tried this spot and it will be a go-to when we are in town. 🙂 Enjoy!
What's not to love about this place?!! I can't believe I hadn't been before last night, it will now be my go to wine bar. I met a friend early on a super chilly Friday night in time for their happy hour special. When I walked in everyone was so friendly, from the hostess to the bartender to what I think was either the manger or maybe even an owner? First of all, the place is adorable, a great cozy date spot. I ended up sitting at the bar to wait for my friend and we remained there all night even though the back room with the fireplace looked oh so inviting. Try to get there for the happy hour special which is a flight of 3 wines with antipasti for $15. The bartender poured substantial pours of a white and two reds. The reds were a Nebbiolo and a Chianti, both excellent, and the white was a hearty grape as well but the name escapes me. The antipasti was arancini, a squash stuffed ravioli and a small rocket salad, all pretty much perfect. I had a very interesting wine conversation with a nice Italian man that must be the manager. I love talking to people when they are equally passionate about certain subjects! We were still hungry so we decided to order dinner. We couldn't decide between a few items that all sounded fabulous so we went with 1/2 order of the strascinati with spicy lamb sausage and the short ribs with mashed butternut squash. The homemade strascinati was fabulous!! I can't comment on the short ribs because we were served the rosemary roasted young chicken instead. There was a bit of confusion as we were discussing both dishes with the bartender but we decided on the short ribs. She was very apologetic and offered to get us what we ordered but the chicken looked great so we just went with it. The caponata with peas and bacon really make this dish. The chicken was moist and flavorful as well. For wine we went with a bottle of Carpignano and trust me on it, try it, it will be like nothing you've ever tasted before. All in all it was an excellent night even with the little ordering mishap. I will definitely be back, again and again.
Came here yesterday with a friend expecting excellent food and service. Let me tell you it everything was just a-okay. Nothing really special. I really don't get why this place gets so high ratings. Yes I must admit it has got a nice charm about the place. It almost feels like your walking into a living room, Yes! It has got a nice welcoming vibe, but that is all that is good about the place.
We ordered the octopus salad as an appetizer and 2 pasta dishes very ordinary and bland. The salad was just ok….pasta was over cooked and not very memorable. We also had a (half) bottle of wine (wines here are way overpriced) and dessert. Ok you got me the chocolate molten cake with gelato ice cream was good. The nutella spread was a nice touch and went well with the cake.
Very underwhelming dining experience… There are better options for less in the area.
We were visiting New York to catch up with some friends who live in the area that we hadn't seen for a long time. We ended up meeting at Aroma on a Friday night.
The restaurant is small; so small in fact that we were seated in the the downstairs area in the wine cellar where they normally hold private events. They sat another party of 3 in the same room as us. Once the wine started flowing we got too loud for them, and they actually tried to shush us. But, not a single f*** was given and we just kept doing our thing.
The menu can be pricey, but at least for the food that my wife and I tried, it feel like the appropriate price. I ordered a special of duck leg and she got the black linguine with squid and lobster broth. The duck was cooked very well and the meat was tender and rich; the portion was of a good size. The pasta was good but I failed to taste the lobster broth (it may have gotten overwhelmed by the squid). The wine selection was good and they had a range of prices (To paraphrase Homer Simpson: "Give me your second least-expensive bottle of wine"). The sangiovese we tried was phenomenal.
It was my birthday weekend and my friends arranged for the waiter to bring a birthday dessert to the table as well as playing a special birthday song over their sound system (and I'm not saying the song because it's embarrassing and there's a long story behind it). I didn't notice any speed issues with service but then again we were too busy drinking and chatting to notice.
This is a great little restaurant and it's perfect for catching up and chatting with friends.
This place is quite, cozy, romantic, and easy to miss. I came here for the special between 5-6:30 (which they don't advertise in the store unless if you ask) and had the flight of wines for $15 and 3 cheeses for $15. It was a nice place to come to before dinner, but like most wine bars, can become pricey. I do like the feel and the help from the staff.
