Artopolis Bakery stands alone as one of the best Greek bakeries I've ever been to. Located in a parking lot a block away from the subway stop, this place is quite accessible.
Once you step in prepared to be bombarded by the fantastic aroma of baked goods occupying every corner of the elegant but modest store. Everything is made fresh and with goods up front, you grab a box and fill to order since it's paid by the pound. If that doesn't strike your fancy, there's always the pastries behind the glass display.
While you're there may as well fancy the coffee-based drinks too.
I've had the traditional kataifi, ekmet kataifi, baklava, cheesecakes, mouses, turnovers, cookies. It's a sweet-tooth's paradise. Although everything is great the only knock I have is that it's not easy to figure out who's being serviced as there doesn't seem to be a queuing system when more than two customers go to pay for their goods. Otherwise, service is also curt but outstanding! 5.0/5.0
It's funny because my job orders their pastries from here!
Anyway, this cute little bakery is right under my dermatologist and cardiologist, so whenever I go (which is pretty frequently thanks to my hypochondria), I always pick something up.
They're super affordable, and there is a treat for everyone. From spinach pies, to tarts, to mini cupcakes and macarons, there is a lot to pick from and everything is always fresh.
The staff isn't rude at all, but also just aren't interactive in any way- they barely even make eye contact, which is why I deducted a star.
The most AMAZING desserts I have every put my eyes on. If you like greek bakeries, this tops them all! They have EVERYTHING and it looks so fresh! My first and only time there, we came close to closing and were only able to try a few things, but from what I tasted and saw, this place doesnt disappoint. We will definitely be back…!!!!!!
Great Greek pastries, exceptionally helpful and friendly employees. Tiropita, baklava and cookies to feast upon. Prices are fair. The shop is super clean, makes you happy to know their standards are stellar.
I love this place. Their pastries selection is awesome. The have some of the best spinach pie in the area. Oh, and the cheese pie is wonderful too! They have a great Greek coffee and some tasty sweet treats.
The only thing that's a bit weird it the set up. It's a bit confusing about where you order, where you stand to get help, etc.
But the people who work there are lovely and helpful.
Wow! First off, this is one of the most well-kept bakeries I've been to. Nestled away in a quaint plaza, it's only a few blocks away from the train. I am always trying new bakeries in Astoria and this place IS IT.
When you first walk in there are tables upon tables of fresh cookies, shelves of cakes, a display case of pastries, and trays of baklava in a variety of flavors and sizes. Unlike most bakeries that look good but taste average, Artopolis looks AMAZING and tastes AMAZING. I spent nearly 15 minutes trying to pick 2 pastries to try. My total came to $11 for two very large desserts. They also provide a sheet that describes each item so you know what you're looking at.
I opted for a dessert (called EKMEK?) with custard, whipped cream, honey & sliced almonds. It was unlike anything I've ever tried before and had this twig-like dough on the bottom. Really hard to describe, but absolutely amazing and I basically ate the whole piece. Like any good bakery, they also make breads which I've yet to try.
This will definately be my new go-to dessert spot. The only downside is they close at 9pm on Fridays!
OMG. So. Many. Desserts. I had a hard time choosing what to buy…located in the corner of an unassuming plaza (w/ a parking lot!). I walk into dessert heaven! Bags overflowing with cookies to buy by the pound, a couple of alcove-like shelves showcasing their Greek cookie specials, multiple windowed cooler doors displaying amazing cakes, pastry cases at the counter with more single serve pastries and cakes, coffee and espresso beverage options in the middle, and a whole section on the right of the store devoted to baklava and boxed cookies. I was visiting a friend's house so I picked up a mixed box of their cookies…otherwise, I would have gone to town on their cakes. Maybe it is a bit pricey, but that's only because you can end up buying a ton of desserts. Spacious, airy and clean…I could have spent all day in this bakery 🙂
Really, really, really expensive pastries.
Really, really, really good pastries.
If this is all okay by you, this is the place to be.
The place looks like a hole in the wall in the strip mall at the back of the parking lot. Don't let the look deceive you. It's a beautiful interior. Clean, well stocked, well done.
