“F*ck Lombardi's. This place has better pizza, unassuming background live jazz and a great ambiance, what more can be said?”
“Pizza is great, coal oven, maybe nowadays not " the best" ( what ever that really means) but its def.”
“A good pizza, friendly staff, great piano playing jazz/oldies, and an old style but well-kept decor.”

Tasty wonderful pizza!I went there with 3 friend and we had a Margherita and Meatballs to share(normal size for the meatballs and large for the margherita); I have to say that the pizza was delicious and tasty with a thin crust which I personally love!
Not pricey at all if you share, service is lovely and funny and the interior of the restaurant offers also live music to entertain you during your stay!
Will definetly come back again 🙂 Ciao!
I love love this place. I have been coming here for years. The food is great. The pizza is always delicious. Always the right amount of cheese to sauce ratio. And always cooked perfectly. I enjoy the pastas here as well. Service is quick and friendly.
While Arturo's pizza was good, it wasn't great. It was slightly better than a Pizza Hut pizza. We had the Fiesta with sausage, mushrooms and peppers (we asked for it without the onions). The ingredients were fresh, however, the crust was a bit on the dry and bitter side and completely burnt on the underside. I ate only the front portion of each slice, the crust was so burnt on the outer edge of the pizza that I just couldn't eat it.
We had a really friendly and great server though. He was excellent. Overall, very good service here, so I give them props for that. Interior looks like every other old Italian pizza joint in NYC with pictures on the walls. Seating is limited. We did enjoy the live piano music.
Needed a sitdown brick-oven pizza place in the area that takes reservations. Arturo's popped up with good reviews and even better looking pizza; sold!
Evening time on a Wednesday night and the as-promised live band was playing quaint low key music for the many patrons on hand. The staff didn't seem to have our reservation but there was a table available anyway. Ordered the Rice Balls ($11) to start and a small Green Peppers/Onions/Spinach Pizza ($25). Rice balls come out first – four wonderfully breaded and flavor-packed portions with a marinara/cheese dip. Pizza came out next, though they forgot our spinach. Sent it back and got a new one in 15 minutes. Spinach really makes the pie here, as it melts well into the cheese and gives it that solid balance.
Service here is up and down. We asked the price for the house red, and they said $9, but we got charged $10 for each glass. With the lost reservation and pizza mixup, it added up. Good food though.
We ordered a large Fiesta pizza for $30. It was a good medium crust pizza but definitely not fantastic. Overpriced for the quality of pizza. Usually I'd give it three stars, but the old school Italian NYC vibe and live jazz music really pushed it up to four stars. Great place to take a date!
This place was very, very good! I had the small pizza (8 large slices) with pepperoni and spinach. I had the chocolate cheesecake, plain for dessert. Amazing.
Another good pizza staple to add to the list in the city.
I took one star off b/c there was a lady (short, middle age, long grey hair) who was just loud and all over the place. Kind of annoying for a place with a nice piano player and quaint atmosphere.
Overall, good eats.
This place should be as recognized like other pizza institutions Grimaldi, Lombardi, John's of Bleecker, etc. When I lived in the neighborhood, I would always get here once a month, specifically for the clams Arturo. I made a return to this spot a couple nights ago and it's as great as I remember it. Along with my favorite clams, the pizza has a beautiful consistent crust with a perfect crunch and no sog. You can eat it with a knife and fork, in the case of a topping heavy pie, or you can go right at it with your hands. Go, don't worry about the calories and overeat here!
Arturo's is a legitimate Italian establishment indeed. The BF & I were craving a clam pie for Pizza Thursday this week; so after doing some extensive online research we read that Arturo's used to do a clam pie back in 2006. After a few drinks in the neighborhood, we arrived at Arturo's and were seated immediately. We started with glasses of their Merlot which I actually enjoyed (I like a simple table wine with Italian food).
We started with a Caesar salad avec anchovies that was delish. The boyfriend has really gotten me to become an anchovy lover (but I'm not quite at the stage of liking it on my pizza yet). We decided to share an entree and a pizza even though we knew it'd be too much food (makes great leftovers for lunch). The chicken parm with a side of ravioli was pretty standard. For our pizza, we decided to do an all white pizza with garlic, half shrimp half clam. Although it was a bit on the greasy side, the crust did a good job of holding it all together and it tasted pretty damn good! I was expecting the clam pizza not to taste like anything except for white cheese and garlic, but it surprisingly had a lot of flava from the ocean! The shrimp slices reminded the BF of his favorite childhood pizza.
Thank you, Arturo's, for giving us a great seafood pizza fix!
