What can go wrong when you're hungry and want to watch the food cooked right in front of you? It's not like you'll leap over the hot metal cooking table and reach for the piece of sizzling meat or vegetable. Instead, you can ask the hibachi chef to toss a piece of food with his spatula and straight into your mouth. (Assuming you don't miss the catch.)
If you're looking to be entertained and get food at the end, then hibachi is a good option. The staff (chef included) at Asahi were all friendly and accommodating. Larger groups would probably enjoy the interaction with the chef more.
Their pork gyoza was very good, albeit a bit oily on the outside, but contained well marinated pork on the inside. The mushroom soup that came with the hibachi dinner was simple and savory in a lite way. The filet mignon and angus steak are both good options. Though I did find the fried rice to be a little bit on the dried side, but entirely edible to the last bite. (Semi hard/soft fried rice is just a personal preference.) They use a lot of butter in the cooking process, so if you are adverse to eating too much butter, you can ask if they can lower the amount they normally use.
The food was good, the chef was entertaining, the staff was friendly and the entire visit was overall pleasant. I haven't had a chance to try their sushi and cooked items yet, I'll have to give the rest of their menu a try.
This was my most favorite hibachi yet. Good service. Really fresh and good sushi sashimi, streak lobster, shrimp scallops.
I always love the fried rice.
Over all good experience until the check came.
They add and automatic 18 percent gratuity and bill for two cane out to 171. A bit much. So we won't be coming back and instead go to a sushi spot or grill our own fresh meat and serious next tine.
The rooms were really good though.
Hibachi? Like cooking in front of you!? I thought these places all faded away after 2007! The fact that there is one in Lynbrook is a huge treat!
It's what you would expect from Hibachi. The cook tries his best to be engaging with the entertainment. If you are like me though, you can clearly state that you do NOT take part in the egg catching activities. If you aren't like me, I hear it's a fun game.
The food is what you'd expect. Not too much butter, so that is a good thing for those watching your belt notches. What really sets this place apart is how nice the employees are. The owners always takes the time to come out and say thanks. It truly adds a special touch.
Side note – If it's someone's birthday, tell the wait staff. The music and drumroll they give you IS WORTH IT!
