This is an example of a restaurant with a great location, plenty of space, lots of ambience, and good service. . . but with food that is mediocre, at best.
We went to Asian Delite on a Saturday evening, for dinner. One of our first impressions was that the crispy noodles often presented to newly arrived patrons were already on all the tables. They had clearly been put there some time earlier, not a good sign. These wonderful pre-meal pastimes should be freshly made (or close to it). The crispy noodles tasted stale and heavy.
I ordered a bowl of wonton soup, to start. The broth was light and nicely made, but the wonton were heavy and appeared to have been allowed to dry out, before being added to the broth. The edges were actually tough. It was disappointing, to say the least.
My entrée was a Chinese restaurant standard, Moo Goo Gai Pan (and a "test food," for me). It came out looking bland and colorless. The taste matched the appearance and was as bland as it looked. Very little to add texture, with the exception of a few slices of water chestnut. Even the baby corn was rather soggy. To make matters worse, it was barely lukewarm. It could have used something lightly acidic, to brighten the flavor and a few greens, to give the dish some color and texture.
My wife's vegetable mei fun was somewhat better, with thinly cut strips of green pepper, but not much other vegetables. She had to toss the noodles quite a bit, to even out the temperature. The mei fun at the top were actually cold, overlaying the mei fun at the bottom, which were hot.
My daughter enjoyed her Passion Roll sushi, and it was clearly right-sized and more than adequate as a dinner entrée.
Asian Delite has lots of potential. But it's not where it should be. Not by a long shot.
Excellent restaurant overall. The sushi is super fresh, well-prepared and delicious. Loved the spicy scallop roll in particular. I love to order a sushi starter and a Chinese entree here. It just works. The two standout entrees I've tried are the sweet and sour chicken (a knockout throwback to my childhood!), extra pineapple and sauce on the side for dipping, and the beef with green beans, just a delicious and satisfying choice. Bring a nice red wine and it's a super dinner. Service is warm and gracious, too.
