Came here for a lunch, and then a dinner. The lunch was much better.
The decor is pretty nice and the view is superb, of course. Great views of central park and up broadway.
Service is fine, nothing amazing.
The food:
Tuna Sashimi. OK. Nothing great.
Veloute. Also OK. The fish wasn't a great touch.
Duck. Wow! Had the duck twice and it was great both times (better for lunch). Good crispy skin, well-cooked and seasoned, and nice garnishes. Really good, please try it.
Cod. Also better at lunch, with a nice crispy skin.
Char. Mmm.. not a fan. A bit too fatty.
Rocky Road. Pretty good dessert – lots of good stuff here.
Lemon Parfait. Also really good, we really liked the rice ice cream.
Overall, my lunch experience was pretty good, better than dinner. The prix-fixe for dinner is a bit high, but the desserts are pretty good.
My boyfriend took me here for our first anniversary and it was spectacular. The ambiance and the aura were romantic with a certain elegance. I had the scallops as an appetizer and it was divine. For my main course I had the duck, and it was cooked to perfection. I was absolutely blown away by the food and the ambiance, the experience was an unforgettable one.
Great views for breakfast and amazing service. From the moment I called to make a Sunday morning reservation the lady was very professional. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and they were out of this world!!! 3 large pancakes piping hot with blueberries all smashed in-between, came with whip cream, syrup, and mixed berry fruit syrup on the side. Everything about eating here was amazing, from the stellar service (they even bring you out a small shot glass size sample of their smoothie of the day) to the amazing views of Columbus circle and central park.
The total experience was great, but on Sunday's, the menu is $65. Little bit pricy.
However, the view is really worth the price you pay. It is better to take your date or. On a special occasion.
Probably the most gorgeous place I've dined at in my time in NYC. The space and aesthetics exude elegance and refinement. Located on the 35th floor of the Mandarin Oriental, Asiate boasts floor to ceiling windows with absolutely breathtaking cityscape views that remind you how beautiful this city can truly be.
So I came here for a post engagement proposal dinner with a few friends. My buddy popped the question to his now fiance a few minutes before the restaurant opened up. He worked with the staff earlier in the week to help coordinate everything, and they made sure everything played out perfectly. He really only had good things to say about the staff here. As for the dinner, the rest of us arrived just after the proposal to congratulate them and the six of us were seated in a private dining room. BON-KERS. One side of the room was entirely windows with views of the city, while another side was a huge glass wall encasing hundreds of the restaurant's wine bottles. Simply amazing. The pictures I posted really don't do the room justice.
The servers were very friendly, professional, and were more than willing to take countless pictures for us throughout the the evening. And the sommelier's recommendations for champagne and wine were completely on point. The service really was best-in-class, exactly what you expect from a $$$$ restaurant on Columbus Circle.
So the only reason I'm not giving a 5 star review is because food just didn't measure up to the prices. We all ended up going with the prix fixe three course meal ($95) where we each chose our own appetizer, entree, and desert. Don't get me wrong, the food was great, but it just didn't floor me like the views and ambiance of the place. I choose the lobster to start, the duck breast as my entree, and the corn pudding for desert. The lobster was tender and paired really nicely with the plums it was served with. The duck was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was extremely juicy, without any gaminess. As for the corn pudding, it was a bit of a miss, but thankfully all of us were willing to share our deserts and the chocolate tart more than satisfied my sweet tooth. The other issue I had was that the portion sizes were a BIT too small, at least for me. I constantly found myself reaching out to eat another roll of bread throughout the dinner. Almost all the dishes were delicious, just not enough to justify the cost.
Overall, I'm really glad I came here and not only to celebrate such a special occasion with my friends. The space is just too damn stunning not to see again. I will be back at some point, but next time maybe just for brunch or a cocktail.
This is a pretty spot with a nice view, so yes, request a window seat when you make your reservation! We didn't have one available but they did move our party of 5.5 halfway through our meal to one so that was nice 😛 And btw, go up one extra floor if you want a changing table (it's not in the restrooms on this 35th floor).
Anyways-several of us had the three champagne cocktails with elderflower, gin, strawberry, lychee and thyme all mixed into 'em-they were all delicious but the alcohol here is pricey! But you already knew that coming in, right?
I had the truffle gnocchi which was tasty, but super tiny, portion wise. Service was top notch and very accommodating, however!
Sad to give such a beautiful restaurant a very mediocre rating. We were seated at an awkwardly shaped side room without a view of the park, despite there being many empty tables in the main room. Our waiter was strangely unsociable and unattentive (perhaps because we were in that awkward room?). We had to flag him down for everything… ordering, refills, clearing plates. Even to switch out our butter knives for steak knives. Service can really make/break an experience, and it was not good. I enjoyed the appetizers more than the mains; the scallops and truffle risotto were cooked well, but not very memorable. The duck was so chewy (even more reason for that steak knife), the fat wasn't rendered enough. The lamb was better but still chewy, and the eggplant was taken past charred… very bitter. The wagyu beef tenderloin was the best of the 3 entrees. Finished with a souffle, which thankfully came out quickly and was a high point of the meal. Overall, I left feeling disappointed. There are many other restaurants at the same price point that provide a much better experience.
Have you ever eaten at a restaurant that distracts diners with an amazing view to compensate for their food? This is presumably one of them. I came for the prixe fix brunch, and left feeling unimpressed for the amount of money I spent. Maybe this is not the place to have brunch since the only other diners were three elderly women and us. I am tempted to go back for dinner since a lot of positive reviews are based on their dinner experiences, but I'm risk averse and would rather spend my time/money on Bouley again. The view, however, is stunning. The colorful backdrop of skyscrapers and a park below is now one of my most prized pictures. Thank God I took pictures the first time otherwise I'd have to pay $200 again for that background.
